I prefer the Naughty Girl mix to the Dreamin' mix... sounds much clearer
Also, 2 of the earliest recordings from the new lineup at the time... both tracks are from late 1985

I was actually a little underwhelmed when I heard Naughty Girl for the first time last year. It came with the singles box set and I couldn't tell the difference between that and Dreamin'. I dare say I'd hear the subtle nuances on headphones. It was also interesting to read Francis's comments on both in the booklet - considering they were the same song!

I admit to not being able to hear any differences either and I did listen with headphones .. So what did Francis say ? Explain the vast differences ?

He didn't really point out any differences but here's what he said. Or is attributed to having said. Which is not quite the same thing Naughty Girl - "I know a song like this can annoy die-hard Quo fans but that's because they see us as a blues-rock band and nothing else. What "Naughty Girl" does for me is emphasise the fact that we can be pop, country, rock, blues....whatever we want to be. It was stretching us out in a different direction, which I feel is what we should always be doing. I like where it took us."
Dreamin' - "It smacked of late 80's. The snare drum was too loud and that's obvious now. And the accompanying video was also typical of the time. Were we wrong to go in that direction? Perhaps. But I love all sorts of music and never felt we should be restricted by what some fans thought."
A bit contradictory in places (to say the least) but more than likely they are quotes taken years apart. If they were ever said at all!

That extended remix is actually the best version I've heard of the song. It also differs from the 12" version (i.e. the wet mix) of Dreamin', which is interesting. Nice one. Cheers for those

The Dreamin' mix is more muddy / obnoxious sounding and the drums slightly differ from the original mix.
Naughty Girl has a few extra "oh oh oh's" from Rick before the middle section.
It only had to be slightly changed so they could re-copyright it under a new name.
I also prefer the Naughty Girl extended mix as opposed to the wet mix

Stupid thing is, they got the release completely wrong so the single is still classed as unreleased. Rock And Roll Floorboards was the intended bside but they used No Contract... Stupidly

I'm just coming back to this for a minute. That extended remix of Naughty Girl is actually superb. The intro, of course, is miles better. Not radio friendly at all except to let a DJ rabbit through but the final 1½ minutes to the end of the song is brilliant. A real neck-moving toe-tapper. Presumably someone like Pip knob twiddling but whoever it was has dragged a less than average Quo track kicking and screaming into the realms of a great one! Rock And Floorboards is sort of Quo's Nutbush City Limits in places. Nice. I always find it interesting (irritating?) that some of the unreleased stuff that surfaces from the 80's is actually miles better than much of the dross they did release. Just saying

Just saying Songs chosen are mostly down to the Record Label... QUO17 (Cancelled single) Naughty Girl (A-Side), No Contract (B-Side) QUO1712 Naughty Girl (Extended Mix) (A-Side), Rock 'N' Roll Floorboards (B-Side) I always thought that Rock 'N' Roll Floorboards was the intended B-Side for the 7" but after doing some research, it turns out it was the 12" B-Side I wonder if Naughty Girl had any artwork created for the sleeve design, or if it was just a picture of the band... Too Close To The Ground was intended for single release in February 1984, QUO15, and that apparently did have a sleeve design featuring the artwork that eventually made it as the back cover for the Going Down Town Tonight single release which replaced Too Close To The Ground as QUO15 QUO15Too Close To The Ground (A-Side), I Wonder Why (B-Side) QUOPO-15, is the same release as above but it was a poster pack version that was going to be issued. These were cancelled and QUO15 came out on the 11th May 1984 as Going Down Town Tonight (Re-Recorded)

Too Close To The Ground and Going Downtown Tonight are very different in style. Seems someone at the record company felt the need to go for something more upbeat. Sounds like a last minute decision, with the poster package ready too and will have cost them money I'd assume - shame about TCTTG though ..

I'm just wondering when they went to re-record Going Down Town Tonight, or whether it was in the pipeline to be released at some stage... because they had to rehearse at some point and they was touring from April onwards. Albeit they already had the groundwork for the track, the dreadful version that was on the album, and they just added onto the top of it... Synths, Piano, Drums, Guitar... don't think there's any actual bass on there from Alan, definitely a synth bass Single was released 11th May, and they recorded the promo for it 2 days later in Zwolle.
