They played Restless for a second tour running though. Perseverance, thankfully, didn't pay off

Quite a few tracks from the UTI album were played but soon dropped, like most new material around the time and still to this day... the only album that has tracks still sitting in the setlist is Heavy Traffic, and it's about time they were long gone

You're right though, they played Restless as a preview to the TW album on the tour before (I think they were promoting the book in 1993), and then they played it again on the TW tour in 94.

At one point it looked like Rock ‘n’ Roll ‘n’ You was going to hang around as well, but was dropped after a couple of tours.

Roll Over Lay Down, Down Down, Whatever You Want and Rockin' have all been in the same order and in the same position in the setlist for almost 20 years... and over those 20 years the setlist hasn't even changed that much... it's been the same songs circulating in and out every year. 2008 was the most change i'd say for some while with Mean Girl / Softer Ride, Pictures Of Matchstick Men / Ice In The Sun, Is There A Better Way, Don't Drive My Car and In My Chair 2010 - For You and Spinning Wheel Blues (included in the medley and it was an awful out of place inclusion) Album tracks came and disappeared, meanwhile some have over stayed their welcome... get them all out

Album tracks came and disappeared, meanwhile some have over stayed their welcome... get them all out (including the hits) ! This !! Rock ‘n’ Roll ‘n’ You clang on to the set for two tours, but then suffered the fate of all new songs (apart from BOTE). I actually thought it worked very well live ..

Even to mix up the “greatest hits” portion of the main set would give it some much needed freshness. We all know that Caroline, ROLD, DD, WYW and RAOTW MUST be in the set..(and Rhino is trying to keep Rain in the set) but, with the exception of Caroline, just mix up the rest of the greatest hits throughout the set, that way, people aren’t waiting too long between newer or more unfamiliar tracks (or the HT portion) and will hear what they want to hear more often, rather than at the start of the set and then wait for the last 4 tracks of the main set.

I'm not sure about the 'must be in' concerning ROLD, DD and especially Rain .. The first two are popular, but not a sine qua non. Rain has never been as popular with many fans - that would rather have been BFM - and they did drop that, despite Ritchie being perfectly able to sing it. Even WYW merely needs playing in the UK - it never was a hit here .. And drop SBYBIL and TW - most fans can't stand them ! But yeah, if songs have to stay, mix them up - but I'd very much prefer it, if they'd dare change the set really drastically: Merely keep RAOTW, ITAN and Caroline Reintroduce old fan favourites like Hold You Back, 4500x or a full (!!) Wild Side Of Life Add 3-4 songs from the new album (preferably with Ritchie singing some) Sprinkle some newer tracks in between for the fans like Heavy Traffic, You'll Come Round or Run And Hide As you say - it's much more exciting when there's more change between old and new, hits and album tracks .. So don't play any of the above groups en bloc any more ! I might even do multiple nights again in that case !
