Interesting release this one. It's got the usual Quo stuff on it as you'd expect but there is some more obscure material there as well. Most notable for me is Andy Bown's solo version of Another Shipwreck. I don't recall that coming out in any format since it was first released back in the 70's. Although I am aware that one or two of his CD's were being re-released in the far east soon. If they haven't already. Other solo stuff from Alan Lancaster, Rhino and Rossi & Frost are also included. There's also a Frantic Four reunion live track and the Military Mix of In The Army Now. I wonder why (see what I did there? ) these random things are being released now?

They seem to have copied the format from Accept No Substitute, which had FF and Aquostic stuff on the end.
I suspect that they have to put random stuff on these days to sell it....the whole country has RAOTW and WYW!!

This, in fact.... quocupsncafe.proboards.com/thread/6157/mitchell-mysteries-exiled-ships-nightsI'm not sure what the project was all about. I dare say I could Google it. I've had the track for a while but it's a bit naff so I've never bothered.

Not the usual package indeed, but still directed towards mainstream buyers with the songs included mainly former singles. They've probably finally realised that the casual fans won't buy yet another greatest hits package. CD3 is about as innovative as it gets for something like this though :oo: .

Interestingly, snakelady - and very cynically to me - this album is not available for digital download. Certainly not on Amazon. It's also completely unavailable on iTunes. Which means, of course, that you can't just grab the one or two tracks you don't already have on an official basis. Which I had planned to do. I'm reluctant to play their naughty little game but I do want that Andy Bown solo track. I'll have a think.

I'm tempted to think these aren't one offs, and Andy's entire catalogue has been remastered and digitalized for a future release project. Same for Rossi's solo work, perhaps Rick's too. Nice little extra earner at some point when Quo are no longer. I can't see them investing in just a few random tracks to remaster. Interesting that one of Alan's has gone on there too. Would that have to go through Alan himself, or have they sidestepped that, it being a cover version?

And to emphasise it the Milton Keynes Medley turned up on a random compilation just before Christmas and I discovered that by accident just browsing in HMV. It then ended up on the vinyl box set as one of the 'other side of Status Quo' tracks on the 10th LP. I get the impression things are being worked on quietly in the background and then out they come. Andy's back catalogue would be excellent but when he was asked about it in FTMO a while back he was less than enthusiastic. Alan's recordings from Australia have been released before; or certainly a lot of them. I know its unlikely but I wouldn't mind seeing the Partners In Crime album with John Coghlan being given similar treatment. I'm quite surprised there isn't a song from them on this collection. Everyone else has had a nod.

The way these things are released still come across as rather randomly. There seems to be no marketing strategy behind it - or actually any marketing at all. Only avid collectors like you will even notice the releases.
I'd not read too much into no song from John Coghlan included in this. There simply aren't any, he's never been a songwriter. In the end they'd be songs he played on no matter who wrote them. He did play on many of the Quo songs ..
There's no song from Leon or Matt included either and they did write some although I don't know whether Matt wrote any tune outside of Quo. Guess it has to do with who holds the rights to the stuff too. Universal seems to have access to a lot, but certainly not everything.

Never thought of that And if only avid collectors are noticing, it makes you wonder why they bother. There will be a strategy, I'm sure. It's just that it's a mystery to the rest of us

There is a rare version of this set knocking about that has different solo tracks which I do believe was withdrawn very quickly but I do know someone who bought one, it was released a good while before this one.

When I asked Steve Hammonds about Andy's solo albums it sounded as if Cherry Red had toyed with the idea but not done anything because "Unfinished Business" sold so poorly.

Everything on these deluxe editions will be coming from hard copies of the tracks that were put on vinyl... nothing is from the master tapes. The only new things were the 8 takes of the Fighter that came from a floppy disc. Even though only 2 were released. Cheers

Cheers To be honest, I didn't expect Flying Debris or Recorded Delivery to see the light of day. Organised Crime I thought might be possible, although not as part of any Quo project. But there are quite a few 70's and 80's albums that I owned by several artists that have never even been released on CD let alone as an mp3. I've had to covert them from the original vinyl. Those that I still have! Incidentally, Andy's version of Another Shipwreck sounds a bit ropey on this compilation. Or at least the track I have. Like it was taken from a warped LP!

Will get a copy myself just out of curiosity, as I didn't realise it had "solo" Quo tracks on there... Tbh Another Shipwreck is a cracking song! love the original and Quo's version of it. Recorded Delivery could at some point purely to get it out there and follow up the success of Over And Out, however I doubt Flying Debris ever will due to the awful single sales. There's a track called 'Secret' that I've been told sounds very Chas & Dave from the album. Cheers

mortified I got a copy of this release and Another Shipwreck is fine on my copy... I'm not experiencing what you were / are with your copy sounding like its from a Warped LP Cheers I must just have been unlucky. I toyed with getting the purple vinyl double album but it's a bit pricey, especially as Another Shipwreck isn't on it. I'll see if I can find a download somewhere.

My sister actually has the Good Advice album. She bought it back in the day when it was released. She used to work in a record shop and maybe picked it up cheap. She will not part with it. The bitch! Says it's the only Quo related item she has that I don't. Although knowing how she used to treat her records I suspect it's in some state
