The next album that had me wondering about Quo .. The sound was hm, sterile, my perception of the songs ranged from great to hate it and the sleeve had me thinking are they turning Green now (with the Greens having just become a new politic force at the time). At least it turned out the political message was restricted to the sleeve. Maybe I wasn't approaching it exactly impartial after the first single that had been WYP. That single has always triggered aggressive feelings - like wanting to attack the speakers with an axe. later I learned about how and why Francis wrote it, so I guess his mood simply reflects in the song and this particular listener. I still did go see them on the tour in 81 and even took a friend along to convert. Well, she left unimpressed and I've got to admit, so did I ..

A very favourite album of mine. I wasn't mad on the single but it was OK. I certainly never skipped it. However, Rock And Roll I just never took to. The lyrics, arrangement and style are all very clever but I find the melody very bland. Always have. Otherwise, I adore this album and it contains Alan's finest ever Quo track in Over The Edge (well, maybe excluding Someone's Learning ).
I mentioned in another thread that I still constantly play Over The Edge, The Wild Ones and Coming And Going with that last one up there with the very, very best Quo have ever done. At the time, this was the best album I'd heard from Quo since On The Level. It's still in my top half dozen.

Er, all of them. I simply don't play this album any more. Even when I bought it, it only got a couple of plays. Easier to include me out of this round!

Good album this one, some great songs, some good songs, one skipper, which is Don't Drive My Car, pile of pish, which is a shame as the guitar solo on the outro is one of Frame's very best.
One skipper for me then!

What makes the album better for me is playing Rock n Roll and Coming & Going the other way round. Play RNR as the penultimate song and CAG as the album closer and it makes a massive difference (to me)! I will never understand why Quo went from closing albums with Roadhouse Blues, 45HT, Slow Train, Breaking Away to closing them with Rock n Roll, 1000 Years, Sorry, Rhythm of Life, This is Me, Tongue Tied. Finish with a stonker every time.

Just an observation so far (after 15 voters): Usually we've got one or two tracks nearly everybody thinks are under par and others we all like. With this album though it seems the general dislike seems to be spread evenly nearly. That's a first ..
