Is it me, or JCQ plays way too slow? www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TOf3a0IMXABy the way, it seems that it is not so difficult to play the solo of BTR, at least at this tempo. I think M. Letley had it right.

No he does and while he plays a great set, the tempo of the songs does spoil it for me.

It’s the only reason I don’t go to see JCQ. It’s so slow I can’t even sing along.
I guess it’s through choice though, nowt wrong with the tempo in 2014. Some people prefer the slower speed, horses for courses.

I saw JC's Quo 2 weeks ago, and John was absolutely spot on, the same as he was during the FF gigs.
All the songs were played at exactly the same tempo they were recorded at.
If you were brought up in Jeff Rich era playing with the band you might think thats how Quo songs should be played. Wrong. it was ridiculous that Paper Plane etc. finished a minute before it should have cos they were out of their heads on gear.
I've been in bands 30 years, JC Quo play the Quo as they should be played, his timing is spot on.

As I've never seen JCQ, but had heard the 'too slow' argument various times before I've just searched yt for the original from 72 and a JCQ version. Well, running times are easy to compare, so yep, JCQ are indeed considerably slower than the original with John. Their version isn't bad, but certainly lacks the energy and speed of Quo: in comparison JCQ

I haven't seen this incarnation of John Coghlan's Quo but that sounds pretty good to me. On this sort of theme, I stumbled across Quo doing Roadhouse Blues on You Tube just the other day. It was from the early 90's and possibly the Radio 1 "Party in the Park". Not sure. But it was extremely fast! I loved it anyway. There was a great deal of energy on stage and I tend to forget that Quo were still running about the stage at that time. Mind you it was (gulp) 25 years ago! :oo: But I find that with Quo. No matter the speed something is played at or the era, I always love it.

I think the reaction of the crowds at the FF tours shows that the fans prefer the songs played at the right speed.
The 90s versions seemed to be a charge to get to the end of the song as quick as possible.. The tempo of the songs was dictated by RP and Rossi, they weren't playing to the drum beat again after John/Pete K left until Mat laid that heavy beat down and set the pace which the rest of the band followed.
This was nearest they got for me to the (correct) timing that John used to provide

I agree with cayan , in the clip posted the drumming sounds really slow, definitely slower than Quo's original version. In general I tend to prefer John's drumming, then and in 2014. I agree with gentlemanjoe that Quo played way too fast in the 90s, always racing through the songs. And yes, Matt played it "right" again. snakelady , I think in your clips JCQ's outro is simply longer than Quo's, and it's live. That original Paper Plane video has always seemed somewhat "cut off" to me. Yep, but when you compare the time the original is finished, JCQ are still in the middle of the third verse. They aren't a minute slower though, their outro is indeed longer - and as I've said above - not a bad version, but Quo are better, no doubt about that IMO.

You like what you like and going by the above, I prefer Quo as opposed to JCQ and that's not a criticism of his band, it's just my preference. I just find that clip a tad slow and pedestrian.
Don't think there's any doubt that the band sped up it in the 90s whether that was unintentional or otherwise, who knows?
