Bit of a cheek I would have thought for someone from Blackburn to petition Woking Borough Council to fund a statue. The council tax payers in Woking would probably have greater priorities in mind even if it is a rich area. If a statue is wanted by enough people, why not crowd fund it and then ask Woking Borough Council for permission to site it?

It would be nice but I don't think it will happen. If Queen fans cannot get a statue of Freddie put up in this country after 26 years I don't think they will get a statue of Rick put up. Having said that the town of King's Lynn where I am from have put this up. Which is supposed to be a tribute to Roger Taylor who was born here.

Ouch, thought that rather looks like a tribute to that staker guy As Ann says, crowd funding probably is the way to go these days with councils notoriously out of money. I'm not sure any monument a single artist from a band is the way to go though, whether that's Rick, Roger Glover, Lemmy .. I'm more in favour of monuments for the whole band, as that's what they have been and become famous for - their membership and with it their contributions to a band. In Quo's case - Lambeth Walk maybe or Butlins even ? Not Hammersmith Odeon though, they were just one of many big bands playing there and it's a rather unattractive site anyway.

5 pricks? Looks a bit dangerous. Well the tops are carved into Drumsticks and that's the tribute but unless you get up close you cannot see them. They are known as giant toothpicks round here.

I do agree that crowd funding would be the better option & one more likely to get a result. You prefer statues of the whole band then, any particular era or line up in Quo's case ? I disagree about whole bands to be honest, there is a lovely statue of Phil Lynott in Ireland, and also one of Bon Scott too,, and I would guess there are many others I may not be aware of

All I know of are classical musicians/composers. So maybe a Rick statue would be Ok in Woking ? And concerning the band line-up - that would probably have to depend on the place where it's going to be erected. All line-ups would have to include Francis , Rick and Andy though IMO.

Even in other worlds of entertianment there is a statue of Eric Morecambe in Morecambe but not Ernie Wise. Whilst in Thetford Norfolk we have a statue of Arthur Lowe as Captian Mainwaring, but not the rest of the platoon.

Well the Beatles were intricately connected with Liverpool and Eric Morecambe was honoured with a statue because he took his stage name from his home town.
