Well, I know I am "a bit" late with my report from this concert, but it is always great to look back at the summer and the concerts.
It was a very warm day. After the hotel check-in we went to the “place to be”. After a drink we went to see where we had to queue. Still no one there…. But hé: someone has to be the first in line!
It was my first time @ Loreley and it is a beautiful surrounding for a concert.
When I was standing there on my own one of the security guys asked if I knew when the doors would open…. Well, I do not speak German, but I knew it was 6pm. At that time Quo were doing their soundcheck and I was allowed a “sneak peak” on the mountain…. Just for a few minutes, but hé: I was happy to see the band on stage (although from way too far).
Later we were allowed to "walk" to the real entrances and when they finally opened we made it to be at the front.
Luckily we had the right ticket to be at the front to the stage as the standing area was at the back. They could not tell us if it would be allowed to stand up, so just to be sure (if standing would not be allowed after all), I saved 2 places at the (seated) front row.
There I noticed that Francis was tuning his guitars …. And he noticed me (well, do I have to say I was filming?). He smiled and waved … but as usual when he does that… I get a bit shaky…..
Anyway…. When the time came for Quo to start (do not ask me who did perform first.....) I decided to get to the place where my Quo friend was… Standing at a rockin’ Quo concert is the only thing to do.
There was a distance between the audience and the stage.
They only played for about 70 minutes…. Way to short, but alas… that’s all they could do as time was limited.
Despite the warmth they were enjoying themselves on stage… and I enjoyed the concert. Which of course ended way to soon.
The place rocked... not much "Rossi talk" as time was already short.
After Quo came ZZTop… Not my cup of tea to be honest. Only knew a few songs and well as I said: not my thing.
ZZTop had to shorten their set as a thunderstorm was coming and we were asked to leave calmy and get to our cars….. Well, once the rain started pouring down we were glad to be in our car but it was impossible to leave: only 1 way out and hundreds of cars that wanted to leave at the same time and some cars did not have their driver/passengers yet…. So we stood there for…. Well, a long time.... they did not expect that people would leave "all" at once and maybe something happened but after a while we decided to see if we could turn and find another way out. We did and finally were on ouw way to the hotel, accompanied by heavy thunder and lightning.
Luckily it all cleared up and in the morning the sun was back.
Was it worth to drive to Loreley for only 70' of Quo: definitely! I enjoyed the concert and I can say I have seen them @ Loreley which is, as I wrote before, a lovely setting for a concert. Lovely surrounding (only: the hotel was a bit noisy due to trains and boats traveling during the night....).
