Worst Quo gig I ever saw or heard. They were pretty awful on the day (although still by far the best act on the bill). Same set as the NEC I think although in a slightly different running order. Still got the programme. I did have a t-shirt but it was small even then. Now, it'd look like a Spice Girls crop-top on me. Nice.

Didn't attend it. I remember being very disappointed with the line-up. Very poor by Donnington Standards ! I think I was getting overly excited with the whole 20th anniversary thing and just felt disappointed and let down with the album !

As already stated, the worst Quo gig I ever saw, months after one of the best, certainly the best without JC.
This gig, followed by Back To Back, made finishing it a good idea!

Didn't see them at Donnington but I don't think any of the band spoke highly of the day which would echo what has been said here.
Looking back, it's hard to believe just ten years prior to this, they released Piledriver and yet ten years later it was 1+9+8+2.
Really hard to believe!

Seem to remember most music papers at the time saying Quo were fantastic on the day. Always interesting to see the differing views between the fans and the press.

Most of the bands on the bill were coming to the end of their 15 minutes of fame. The NWOBHM was pretty much a burning ember by this time and Saxon and Gillan were well past their most popular period. Hawkwind and Heep never really rode that wave so their time was even earlier. Anvil, of course, have stuck around (as have Saxon) but they never achieved much success. I recall an interview with Biff from Saxon at the time saying they were put on the bill late on to encourage ticket sales. Talk about a distorted view of your own importance My sister went with me and she thought it was a poor day out as well. However, she went back the following year to see Whitesnake, ZZ Top and Diamond Head and she thought it was much better. It was certainly a better line up.

I went to the first Monster of Rock with Rainbow, it was a bit naff, no alcohol for a start.
Went the next year, AC/DC, to give it a chance, bloody awful, said I'd never go again unless Quo headlined, safe in the knowledge they wouldn't (They weren't in that basket IMHO).
Went in '82, never again. Turned me off of festivals completely that one. Do the odd one dayer, but never again!

I cannot believe anyone could say it was a bad gig.
If Alan Lancaster was on stage it must have been perfect.
Clearly those people are not proper Status Quo Fans.
Who are these Mortified and Col people anyway?
Etc Etc Etzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
