Both hot topics on the board at the moment. Which is your favourite and why? Favourite tracks, singles, bonus tracks on the rereleased versions etc.
To be honest, I don't have an opinion at the moment! I don't have either of them on CD so I haven't listened to them for ages. I wasn't a fan of these albums when I got into Quo and discovered them, which was probably why I didn't buy the rereleases. I might feel differently if I gave them another chance though now I'm older. As an aside to the music, I think both of them are terrible album titles!!
Anyway, what do you think?

Easy one for me, PMM purely because I know two of the songs, Ice in the Sun and POMM. I wouldn't say either are huge favourites of mine but they're not bad little tracks.
Have only heard brief snippets from some songs on Spare Parts, didn't like any of it.
Funny, a lot of the bands I like (Phonics spring to mind) had great albums initially and then gradually got worse IMO. Seems to me Quo had a shaky start and then found their form, big time.

Probably Picturesque.... because I actually rather like a couple of tracks. And the inclusion of Bloodhound on a later CD pretty much nails it. But Spare Parts is at least an attempt to achieve their own identity. To an extent. But there isn't really much in it. Both of their day. But then so was Ain't Complaining

Oi, Neil, I'd need the option 'neither'. I don't listen to both albums, have never even considered to get me CD versions - I just don't like both albums.
@inna - I too prefer Ma Kelley's over DOTH

PMM for me - the least worst or something like that. Nothing concrete to add here really, just minor preference.

I don't own either album and from what I heard, I'm not particularly a fan of them.
I listened to a Pye compilation the other week and there were very few on that I liked or ever want to hear again. I made a note of my likes and then lost the piece of paper that I used to write them down on and I'm loathed to go and listen to it again but they were not many of them anyway.
I've never really liked POMM either to be honest. I only began to like and listen to that on a regular basis when Aquostic came out.
Neither of these albums are really for me, sorry

Anyone who prefers anything to The Mighty Dog album runs the risk of all their opinions being discarded. By me anyway!! Okay, so I venture forth... Out of the seven songs on the Dog album (counting Nanana as one track), I really love four. I'm quite fed up with three of the songs on there, probably due to overexposure live. But I used to love them once... Out of the 10 songs on Ma Kelly's, I really love eight and consider two quite good. So a top album to me! Nah, they're both top albums, but Ma Kelly's is a tad "better", well, at least to my ears. If you take the seven songs on the Dog, I love seven of them!! Three songs make my all time top 5 Quo songs, when Mean Girl is the weakest link (probably overexposure), you know it's a truly great album!! The sound of a band achieving greatness. Ma Kelly's is good, very good, but it's the sound of a band on the journey.

IMO I would say it's the least commercial (poppy) of ALL Quo albums (although NaNaNa and possibly Mean Girl fall into that category), so I can see how people who hate the poppy/commercial side of Quo would prefer it.
Of the early albums I prefer Ma Kellys, Hello and On the Level as I think I lean more towards tuneful/commercial heavy Quo.
Each to their own.

I like Picturesque Matchstickable Message and spare parts. When I got into Quo in the early 90's I got the raotw album first then the Ice in the sun compilation then perfect remedy and none of that put me off Quo!! I loved everything they have ever made!!

Can anyone imagine Quo recording or even writing Someone's Learning these days? Dreamin' it ain't I'm almost with Col on this. Dog Of Two Head through to Blue For You, for me, is the greatest sequence of albums ever recorded. Choosing between them all is an exercise in futility. It will never happen again. I'm not a teenager and they're not interested. Age is a factor. In all of it. But so is quality and I don't listen to many other albums from the 70's. I could reel off maybe half a dozen from six different artists but that's all. Not a bad little outfit this Quo lot. Despite Mr Roßi's misgivings.

I listened to PMM on Youtube over the weekend. I quite like at least half of it. It's nothing special, but then it was their first album, in a style of music that didn't come natural to them.
Black Veils, When My Mind is not Alive, Ice in the Sun, Technicolor Dreams, Spicks and Specks, Sunny Cellophane Skies, Green Tambourine And PoMM all sounded half decent or better to me. It's not the sort of album I'd listen to often though.
I've ordered Spare Part on CD, so should get it this week....there's no way I can afford to buy the Pictures album!!

Not sure what to do with this, Neil ? - Shall I move the poll to the past cups section ? Would make sense if you'd continue with these head to head battles of consecutive albums. What do you think ?

Put it wherever you think best Kathrin; Past Polls or Songs and Records, up to you.
That's a good idea actually. Thinking through the albums, I think that it'll work quite well. I think with most pairings it would be a fair battle.

Well I got my Spare Parts CD. I don't like it as much as Picturesque Matchstickable Messages, but it's ok. There are about 4 songs on there that I really like. Are you Growing Tired of my Love has always been a particular favourite of mine. Was good to hear it again after all those years.....some songs that I'd even forgotten about.
Quick story: I was at a pub quiz years ago and Are You Growing Tired of my Love was one of the songs that was played during the music round. The DJ/Quizmaster said, What's the song title and who's it by?....I guarantee no-one will get it. He was wrong!
