Quo are playing the Wacken festival this year as per the homepage. They still aren't listed on the Wacken homepage though and with the festival running from 3.-6. August and Quo already booked for two open air events during that time span - Schwetzingen on 4th Aug. and Macclesfield on 6th - I wonder how this is supposed to work ? On the other hand I'd not consider spending a day (or days) in the mud and I'm not into metal anyway. - If you still can call it a metal festival at all and tickets are usually sold out within days after the previous festival .. link

I suppose they could headline 3rd August. Seems the only practical option. If it is practical.

Just been on the Wacken homepage - they are listed now, but still no further info ..
I'd expect the 3rd to be most probable as well. As far as I know there are various stages. From previous experiences with the band I doubt they'd want to headline though ..

Status Quo are listed on the Wacken homepage: www.wacken.com/en/bands/bands-billing/This festival is not for the usual Quo fan. I think Quo will be no headliner because they are not a Metal Band.

IMO Wacken these days is more kind of a general rock event and less of a mere metal festival. Crossovers from other genres have been invited for a number of years already - including Kiss and Heino. Like you though I doubt Quo will (or even would want to) headline. With those other commitments they have on the 4th and 6th, I'd assume they'd want to be on stage early. I'm sure they'll go down a storm anyway, whenever their slot. They usually do with non-Quo audiences.

I didn't know what kind of festival Wacken was so, you're right; headlining wouldn't be an option.

So Quo are playing Wacken Open Air, Europe's biggest metal festival tonight - or rather in broad daylight* late afternoon as they seem to prefer these days. And with them playing the palace gardens at Schwetzingen tomorrow it's probably more comfortable getting out there too. *replace with 'in dark and fierce thunderstorm' when appropriate .. Check out the Wacken homepage: link Lots of interesting content there (at least if you're a metal head). A live stream for Quo will be available too: link Quo will be on from 5.15-6.30 UK time. The gallery/webcam site will be updated as the festival proceeds: link

The Live video from Wacken is at Youtube already, pelase watch, not bad... But maybe its time to renew the setlist for a younger festival-audience who even wasn't born inthe 90s? I guess that many wondered what they heard, but also was impressed by the old men with the great sound on stage..

Not a huge fan of Rhinos vocals and I agree the set list is looooong overdue a refresh but: Great music played well. Gets my vote.

Yes, they played very well and it was a good finish with Bye Bye, even if the audience didn't got it all the way..? ;-)

They always seem to go down really well at these festivals. I don't suppose I should be surprised. They're a bl00dy good band with a set full of hits even youngsters will recognise. Between Glastonbury's Aquostic rapturous success (by all accounts) and this, maybe some of us (i.e. me ) should rethink their recent grumpy criticisms. People have moods Actually, on an almost completely different topic (sorry, I'll digress later), I watched Peter Kay's Comedy Shuffle the other night and they showed the bit where he comes out and plays Whatever You Want on the garden shovel. It sent the hairs on the back of my neck into orbit. The crowd went mad and it brought home in a bizarre way that I still love this band. A lot.

Why is it I'm feeling proud when they win over non-fans ? I know they always go down a storm with festival crowds - because for them the set is perfect: Fresh and full of tunes they recognise - and the guys are a great band. Tonight they're playing my home turf - and I so long to go .. but I hate the set .. but I love the band .. I know they'll be great .. but the set bores me to death .. but .. HELP !

The maddening contradictions of being a Quo fan in the 21st century. If they genuinely packed it in, after a while I'd miss them like hell. In the meantime, I'll go along, enjoy myself as always, then moan a bit later when they do something daft. Tis the way of things.

Great to read that they were well received but just really confirms (to me anyway) that this type of thing is their target audience and not us.
There's a lad from the work who is away to this and I spoke to him on Monday and he was looking forward to seeing Quo.
Hopefully I'll hear all about it next week.

Just watched the Wacken performance and surprised how good they were, really rocked, they are somewhat a youthful band in a way again, changed my mind about seeing them again on the back of this, will be getting tickets for Sheffield

Another thing I noticed about the performance is that the entire band are wearing white apart from Ritchie who is all in black, if that isnt an obvious salute in memory to Rick then I dont know what is

Great performance. Francis on great form. Band looking really fresh and Ritchie handled it brilliantly ! He actually makes them look fresh and dare I say a bit more youthful. And you can see Francis has been lifted ! Probably better rehearsed ! Set list is what it is now but it's now a target audience and won't change. Give me Status Quo with Mr Rossi over a tribute down the 'Dog n Gun' any day of the week.

WACKEN HOSTS ACCEPT'S GREATEST NIGHT AS THE RAIN COMES DOWN, DOWN Wacken Open Air 2017, Thursday "Status Quo also navigated their way through a near disastrous moment when an on-stage water spillage occurred and covered Richie Malone's pedal box, causing him problems during the intro to 'Whatever You Want' but Herr Rossi guided him out of danger and parity was restored. It was a surprise when Quo were announced for Wacken but the decision was more than justified by the adulation from probably the biggest crowd the veteran rockers have played to for some years. Speaking to MetalTalk during a violent thunderstorm that nearly floored the Wacken bull in the artist hospitality area, Quo bass player John 'Rhino' Edwards told us that Francis Rossi was initially unsure that they should accept this engagement but they came, they saw, they conquered and it was simply magnificent as a muddy field full of thousands of hardcore German Metalheads boogied along to some of the greatest British rock classics of all time." I have also seen this very lame video from "back in the mud" perspective... Not that fun as we would have?

Loved that interview, @inna. We may have heard most of it before, but if he's in the mood, Francis is a joy to listen to. Seems he's the one looking after the 'kids' now. - arriving, talking and joking with Leon and Ritchie and Andy and Rhino nowhere in sight. Could've been by chance though .. Maybe it's easier for him now in a way, less responsibility, with not having to worry about Rick any more ? I don't know .. The remark about wanting more and the record company wanting another album (and record company guys obviously are present at the place of interview) is interesting. Maybe we do in fact get more ?

Excellent interview that, Inna. Thanks for putting it up. There's a lovely vibrancy about Francis that I personally have maybe failed to appreciate over the last few months. There's a new found enthusiasm. And it's infectious! I've winced at some of the magazine interviews he's given because some of the things he's said I've fundamentally disagreed with. However, this interview shows him in a new light I think. Or certainly a different light than my perceptions have been. That new found energy that he speaks about - the energy on stage - I can't appreciate. I'm not up there. But something has kicked in and they seem to be enjoying it immensely. When I hear Francis talk like that, I start to really look forward to the next gig. That's not till December but he's whetted my appetite, that's for sure. I think he underestimates how powerful Quo are. I think he always has. That's one of the reasons there is that heavy metal cross-over. Quo are not and never have been a heavy metal act but they are loud and have as many riffs as a Judas Priest gig. The 'la la la' description he gives of Quo in comparison underplays just how powerful they are on stage. For every Gerdundula there are three Roll Over Lay Down's. Great stuff.
