This might cause a stir! There seems to be quite a move towards Country just recently (C2C etc). Bob Young album and the fact we know Francis likes Country. If Aquostic has runs it's course then how about Quo moving this way for an album? What do you think????

Country music gets a bad press within the rock medium. And, to be fair, some of it is pretty sickly nonsense. But a lot of it is very good. You can keep your Slim Whitman and Loretta Lynn but artists like Leigh Thomas and Son Volt are top notch.
The problem is that Francis in particular tends to lean more to the softer side of country. Which isn't really for me. For every Fine Fine Fine there is likely to be a Marguerita Time.
And I'm not sure anyone else in the band has the same outlook. Andy maybe occasionally but Rhino certainly doesn't.

I don't think so and can't see it ever happening.
I do like some country music but not all of it. The songs that I like are generally because 1. I like the tune and 2. There's a story being told in the song too.
Country music is not unique in that but think of Johnny Cash - A Boy Named Sue, Kris Kristofferson - Sunday Morning Comin' Down etc and you get my drift.
These days, I'm not really sure what constitutes "country music." There's a school of thought that says anything with an acoustic guitar on it is "country" and I don't agree with that. For instance, I've heard Labelled With Love by Squeeze being described as country and I don't think it is.
I don't like Marguerita Time but I do like Invitation but by and large if I want to listen to country music, I'd rather listen to Johnny Cash, George Jones, Emmylou Harris etc as opposed to SQ trying to play it.
I don't mind one or two SQ songs that are country in flavour but I wouldn't want a whole album.

The above artists, Big & Rich are categorised as country.
Discuss?

They haven't got the singing voices for the harmonies these days.

I've got difficulties with the definition of country to start with. I can go along with Fine Fine Fine having a country element, but Marguerita Time is simply a pop song IMO. Maybe that's to do with my perception that country music is an American style of music - country and western. so if I can imagine some guys in country boots and hats with American accent singing a song, it kind of passes the test . Like Saddling Up, that's country for me and I really like that song - as a one-off - I wouldn't want a whole record in that style. It's the variety of styles right across the spectrum that defines a Quo record and can be found on the best Quo albums IMO. To want a Quo ballads, rock or a Quo country album would go very much against what makes this band great, even if it seems to be what sells these days. 'The 20 greatest ballads from the 90s' - I'd not want to listen to 20 ballads in a row (or most other 90s stuff actually .. ) .

The titles are In Quo Country (1997) and Back in Quo Country (2017). Why not let Bob Young do whatever albums he want, he has written most of the songs anyway... I can't see the problem here.

I think the original poster wasn't criticising Bob in any way, but rather asking whether it was an option for a Quo album (that's why Quontry ) as well considering Bob and Francis have always liked the style.

When all is said and done, country music is as broad a church as rock music. Or classical music. But we can have our own individual and narrow perceptions of what we believe rock or country to be. Or, more likely, should be. But the industry relies on labels and pigeon holes to shift its product. So it will be marketed as one or the other at any given moment. Aquostic is a pretty fine example of stretching a definition!

Hmm. We all know that Francis likes country music, but he also regularly maintains that good music is all about the melody, and that he grew up on Italian ballads etc. So a broad(ish) basis. His solo work, especially OSAAT, hasn't been heavily countryfied. And as previous posters have observed, some Quo material that could be classed as country, could equally be called melodic pop or crossover at a push.
I don't think any of this leads me to believe that Quo will or should turn to country music in future.
