Quo now seem to be a band who do either Electric or Acoustic gigs.
I've seen other bands who manage to combine both to very good effect, the Rolling Stones immediately spring to mind.
Why wouldn't this work for Quo? Start electrically, big bang, get the crowd going and then part way through swap the electrics for acoustic. They could then swap back to finish on a high, electrically.
It would certainly make the gig less taxing on the body for them and it would inevitably lead to a mix up in the set list. I know they have all the backing players when performing acoustic but I'm pretty certain they could reduce the numbers somewhat and find a way to make it work.
I for one would quite like to see it, unlikely I guess but then again I used to think that about the FF performing ever again pre 2013.

Think that's a really good suggestion @bam and one that I had never contemplated but as you say, it works for other bands, so why not Quo? I saw Rod Stewart a couple of times in the 80s and 90s and there were parts in the show where he sung a few ballads before going back to the more uptempo songs. If he and others can, then why not? They could still start with Caroline and then drop it down a little as and when they need a breather. I agree with @inna too, if they were to do this, then I don't think they'd necessary require strings/percussion/backing singers, just pick up the acoustics and go! Good suggestion

I think this was touted around for a while a few years ago but dismissed. When Gerdundula was at its peak. That was the perfect moment for chucking in acoustic versions of a few songs. I think the whole Steve Wright thing put light bulbs above a few heads. Rory Gallagher used to do it with aplomb. It would certainly be less taxing on my body as well! I love the idea; always have. Easy to get a crowd going with this sort of thing. Isn't it funny how we keep suggesting ideas for a band that look like they're going to chuck it in less than a year?

I think it was after the Roundhouse gigs that it was (again) suggested in interviews that the band do an acoustic middle section. The answer was something along the line of 'it wouldn't work with our set and stage set up ..' Guess they only ever considered to bring along all the additional musicians and in that case they were probably right. I doubt they ever even thought about playing really stripped down versions of their songs, as that wasn't what they had been recording and were selling. They might open a can of worms and create a demand they weren't able (and didn't intend) to meet that way. Things usually are a lot more complicated from their POV than we tend to see them .. .

I think they make it more complicated than it actually is! I saw Rhino's Revenge years ago do an acoustic thing and even a silly rap thing with Freddie and Max during a gig. Mr Edwards has the right idea. He tries stuff.

There's 'status quo' and then there's 'trying stuff' ..
