I'm surprised that they are appearing at this.
Surprised because what I know of this event is that the bill is usually made up of artists who have seen better days and don't tour, or play the type of venue that SQ do.
Even if this was near me, I wouldn't be going and that's because Quo are the only artist that I'd want to see. Most of the singers/guests that are appearing I didn't particularly like first time round anyway.

The fact that they are says it all to me, get money wherever they can, with no regards to their legacy or credability, its called scraping the barrel, the casuals and FRQ/Rossi fans of course won't see any wrong in it , to many others its just plain embarrassing, but highly amusing And the Rock Meets Classic thing wasn't for the money ? It's their job and when it's well paid - why not ? Surely you'd not turn down a well paid offer either .. I'm sure Rick wouldn't have minded the least bit. He happily went along with all of David Walkers ideas, including the covers albums, as they brought in substantial money - as opposed to Francis, who hated most of them (and I'm quoting Rick's biog again here, if not literally). In consequence I've got to say, you definitely have double standards.

I was quite surprised myself when I saw they were doing Rewind. Although extremely popular with the dance round the handbags clientele, it is usually packed full of artists who couldn't get a gig anywhere other than a pub. The best line up is actually the Scottish one at Scone Palace (a huge annual event by the way) but Quo aren't playing that.
I couldn't sit through any of the others. Nik Kershaw I'd go see at a push. The rest? Frayed knot. But if I'm being brutally honest I felt the same about the Download Festival when they played that. Too many acts I didn't like.

I never thought I would see even FRQ descend this low to appear on something like this, look at the billing , how the once mighty have descended,, rapidly, do they really need the money that badly ?! its singalong with Rossi time for an hours GH setlist and twirl those fingers www.rewindfestival.com/I have to say I was surprised when I saw his and my heart did sink a bit, however I think the band would probably say "Its another gig" which really what they say about all of the festivals, whether its Glasto, Download, Hellfest, a Racecourse or the back of a hotel somewhere (was it in Ireland, or up north somewhere), or even in a forest. To the band they are all the same.
I have said this before that there aren't many bands that can play to such a diverse crowd as Quo, whether its a Metal Festival, a pop crowd or even Blues & Folk Festivals. Whatever the crowd they still go down a storm.

I have never done the summer circuit as not for me, but doesn't seem any different to the summer picnic type gigs they have done each summer for several years now

They will clearly play wherever they get paid enough to,regardless of how tacky it will be,,,, coming to a Leisure Centre near you soon!, oh hang on, they are already doing that, silly me Bands play churches, chapels, football stadiums, forests, peoples living rooms, pubs, clubs, basements, parks, theatres and in the middle of a field, so why not a leisure centre?
Snobbery ?

Didn't they play Brentwood Leisure Centre (or something like that) back in the early noughties? Along with Birmingham NEC and Wembley Arena of course. Nothing if not diverse. I saw them in a hotel function suite in Ireland in 2009. Portlaoise Heritage Hotel it was. And bl00dy terrific it was an' all! Hotter than hell I'm no "Rewind" fan believe me. But they can play where and when they like. Once you've witnessed Nicole Lacey you can expect pretty much anything

. Once you've witnessed Nicole Lacey you can expect pretty much anything Ah you remember her too then That really was grim, wasn't it? Perhaps she was/is very good but it was the wrong audience, wasn't it?
I couldn't believe what I was watching that night, didn't enjoy that at all.

The rather fetching Nicole didn't so much get abuse when I saw her so much as she was faced with open-mouthed disbelief. :oo: One of the weirdest opening acts I've ever seen. Actually, no; she was the weirdest. She herself wasn't weird, don't get me wrong. All she did was come on stage on her own to a backing track then proceed to sing and prance about a bit. It was like something from a talent show and she may well have won. But it was weird in the sense that this was a support act for a top rock act. Strength to her arm though; she got up there and did it. I read that they met her on a flight from Norway or somewhere and she persuaded them to give her a slot. Well, persuaded David Walker presumably. The thing is, only two tours before that the support act was Glyn Ashton who was superb. A sort of cross between Pat Travers and Rory Gallagher. Its never dull.

I agree with everyone else who says Nicole wasn't right for a Quo slot.

Must confess I wasn't impressed with Glyn Ashton. He just seemed to widdle throughout his set and I'm not a big lover of guitarists who widdle.

For a fair number of years, I was disappointed with the acts who supported Quo, didn't really like most of them.
Thought Glyn Ashton was brilliant though, thoroughly enjoyed him. Even bought two of his CDs which says it all for me.
Support Acts that we liked or otherwise could be a thread on it's own?

That was a cracking gig...

Support Acts that we liked or otherwise could be a thread on it's own? It might well have been on previous message boards. It does ring a bell. Not sure why, but the vast majority of the best support acts for Quo I've seen have been abroad. They tend not to muck about over there for some reason and usually just stick a half decent band on. Or even a relatively famous one like they do in Germany (Uriah Heep, Kansas etc.).

I think Livingston Forum doubled up as an ice hockey venue at the time. A pretty small one. Best gig of that tour for me.

I met Gwyn Ashton outside Brid Spa in 2000 before the Quo gig there. Didn't have a clue who he was, but he gave me a flyer and we had a natter. Really nice guy, unassuming and straight up and down. Saw his support slot, and thought he was superb - Brilliant slide guitar player, with good heavy blues-rock riffs. I was pretty shocked to see people walking out, especially after fans on the old MB had been going on about Quo needing to release more bluesy material. I remember thinking "some of these guys wouldn't know what the Blues was if kicked 'em in the nuts"... Anyway, I have all Gwyn's albums, and they get good usage. Sadly I missed him playing Hebden Bridge Blues Festival last summer, which is about 7 miles from my abode...
