@inna Really enjoyed watching that, I'd never seen any of that before, a nice little bit of nostalgia! Not seen Rick's Ovation Viper in ages, I wonder what became of it. I'm not really a fan of medleys but I think that's the best one. I would have loved to have heard a full version of Wild Side Of Life, think that would have been great live.

We have a full thread on the other board that mainly started as a discussion about Ricks main guitar but expanded to both Rick and Francis' guitars. He got rid of it during the 90's... When it stopped being used on stage, it become a backup for his Zemaitis during 1990 when they did 4500x again. It was on ebay around 2011 but had been repainted covering the wear and tear that it had gained... bad thing is they painted it a matte white colour so it didn't have the lacquer shine to it any more. Rossi's viper was on ebay twice last year... Still looks beautiful but the carving in the body has got a little dirty

Thanks for detail. That sounds as if that could be an interesting thread.
I was just curious about the Viper as I only began to follow the band in '76 and it was obviously the teles that I was aware of and then (I think) this other guitar appeared on Top of the Pops for RAOTW appearance without AL.
I'm fairly certain that it was used live for a few years after that and then, it just kind of disappeared.
Sounds as if it was butchered when the repainting job was carried out. Shame, as I thought it was a wonderful looking guitar.
Cheers

Cheers This is what it looked like at the time... not sure what it looks like now and if it was bought by anyone else Rick and Francis got them around the same time '76/'77. Rossi used his for Dirty Water live up until the 80's when it become the guitar he'd use for What You're Proposin', and Ricks was used for everything in open G. For a period in '86 he was using his Gibson Melody Maker for Little Lady until he fell off the drum riser very early on during the Army tour and snapped the neck... having to use a white tele (not his main one) until he got his Esquire back. Then around '88/'89 he got a Black Steinberger which replaced the Esquire for Little Lady and the Esquire become the open G guitar replacing the Viper

It's a shame that out of the two Out In The Green events merely footage from Dinkelsbühl seems to exist. I've been wondering if maybe the Loreley gig had been filmed as well, but was never released due to the sound problems the band experienced. Somehow I've been hoping that over time at least some songs from the gig would surface .. Did Rory Gallagher and Jethro Tull play in Dinkelsbühl as well ?

There were bootleg dvds and cd's of Lorely, but Im not aware of any professional filming of this gig I didn't notice any cameras there either, but I doubt I'd have, if they hadn't put up one right in front of me .

That 'Out In The Green' footage could have been so much better if the audio was mixed properly... the guitars are somewhat non existent. Just drums, bass, synths and vocals. Then again the other pro shot footage from a Belgium gig that same year is an improvement but still a terrible mix

It's a real shame no proper recording seems to exist. Maybe Dinkelsbühl could at least be properly remixed and then released officially. After all they were the first gigs on the continent with the new line-up.

What a great line-up that was and what a great poster - never saw it back then (or else I might have nicked it ). The only stupid thing about it was, it was on a Sunday. I wrote an important exam early next morning and we had a drive of well over two hours back home, so we left during Jethro Tull. On the other hand - I've never been a big fan of theirs, only hubby's younger sister, whom we had taken along, wasn't too happy about it ..
