Just having a few thoughts, and wondered what the possibility is of a permanent memorial to Rick being commissioned? Obviously the cost of a statue would be pretty high, but is there anyone on the messageboards, or does anyone have any contacts with a sculptor who could give an estimate of a likely cost to create a bronze statue, or would be willing to do it as a fan themselves? I'd certainly be willing to put towards a permanent memorial, I just wondered what the perception amongst other MB users would be?

Didn't someone mention that there's a campaign afoot to raise money for some sort of permanent memorial to Rick in Woking?

I haven't heard about any campaigns myself, but Woking would be as good a place as any, being Rick's birthplace. If any details do come to light, could they please be posted here, as I'm sure there will be people willing to contribute to a very worthy cause.

Like the Rory Gallagher statue in Ballyshannon,Eire👍 Not seen the Rory one but the Phil Lynott one in Dublin outside McDaids, near to The Westbury Hotel, is impressive.

Great idea but for me the ideal location would be outside the Hammy Ode, the scene of so many Quo triumphs and far more likely to be seen by numerous rock fans than if it were in Woking.

coldwarkid frame66 ive Rick RoperJust re-read the bit on Twitter about the permanent memorial to Rick. At the moment, it's suggested either a plaque or a statue and it's Woking that has been mentioned as a suitable site. I always think it's sad that the country always waits until the person passes away before commemorating their life. I think it would be better if these sort of things could be commissioned during their life, so that they'd then know how much they are loved/appreciated/admired.

I'd not opt for a statue of Rick on his own, no matter where. A plaque on the house in Woking where he grew up would be nice and maybe one or two more at other places of his, so fans can kind of follow his path. For statues though I'd prefer one of the whole band and at a place they consider important. Not sure about the Hammersmith Odeon ..

That's wonderful ! I'm going to move this to the tribute thread, so it won't get overlooked.

That'll depend on the site I assume: You'd place the FF at the site where the Glasgow Apollo had been and a recent line-up in front of the Hallenstadion ..

Surely its a permanent form of rememberance ?, I see no wrong in that. Did I say that there was?

Could you please explain? @inna can see what my point was, can't you?

I know it wouldn't happen, but I like an idea Of The block of seats, in front of where Rick used to stand to be named the Parfitt Block at the Hammersmith Odeon. I know it's the Apollo, but to me and a lot of others, it's the Hammy Odeon.

Don't really understand the attraction/point of FB. I doubt if anyone would be interested to see what I had for dinner last night.
Besides, from what I've seen of it, it looks a bit false to me.

That'll depend on the site I assume: You'd place the FF at the site where the Glasgow Apollo had been and a recent line-up in front of the Hallenstadion .. There's not enough space for a statue on the pavement outside Walkabout (where the Apollo stood) and very much doubt one would ever be erected in nearby Sauchiehall Street. We started a campaign in 2008 to get Glasgow City Council to honour AC/DC's Malcolm and Angus Young with the freedom of the city of Glasgow (where they were born) and we were told that the Young brothers "weren't famous enough" to be awarded such an honour, so I assume Quo would be treated with similar disdain with regards to a statue in the city.

"weren't famous enough? That's unbelievable! Isn't the head of Glasgow City Council, Frank McA-something, the pie gate man, a Quo fan? I'm sure I read somewhere that he was.

Maybe in that case Quo are famous enough for him .. . .. and who's AC/DC ?

Graham Ibbeson. Sculpture maker from Barnsley. Sorry, no link, but check him out. Heard on the local radio the other day that he's currently working on a bronze statue at the moment.
Being realistic, is it really going to happen ? Surely its up to Quo and there management.
