A message off Richie Malone
Well what a year it's been.. some incredible highs and incredible lows. I Still can't believe the "Wild old Man of Rock n Roll" Rick Parfitt has passed away. Who would of thought that all them years ago when I first got into Status Quo and in particular Rick -that I would end up many years later in the band filling in for Rick while he recovered. This year has of course been truly amazing for me while on tour with Quo and now my idol has passed away. Hard to believe considering he only rang me a few weeks ago and we had a great chat- he was in top form and cracking jokes as always. So many amazing memories from over the years meeting Rick and travelling to gigs, he was a hell-raiser a joker and a gentleman. I was very privileged that he took a liking to me all them years ago and as you can see in the video he always kept an interest in my playing. I'm very honoured to have had his blessing while stepping into Quo, he was very proud and and said to keep up the good work. Rick I hope you are having the party of a life time up there with the rest of the legends that have passed away in 2016. Thanks for the memories and an awesome body of work left behind. ROCK ON.
Nice words Richie

I've removed this quote as it was completely disrespectful towards Rick and Ritchie. Don't let yourselves be manipulated (snakelady)

I have nicked this from the other board, (apologies) but it really is spot on (...) What was he thinking when he wrote that? That's not what he said though - what he did say on his FB page is quoted above. I suspect the interpretation stems from someones grief at what's happened to Rick, which quite often manifests itself in anger and blame. Richie is a young lad who idolised Rick and was lucky enough to know him personally. He'll be feeling Rick's loss greatly, of that I have no doubt. Now is not the time to scrutinise or indeed twist his words, it just isn't.

Choosing to criticise Richie at a time like this is incredibly disappointing, that's all myself and Smokie are saying.

I judge his own words only, & totally agree with the member from the other board,,its me me me ,,, thats how I read it, as for Rossi's statement, i will save my opinion of that for another day

Just re-read this topic and the way this thread is now developing considering how it started, I can well understand why Rhino gave up reading message boards as he referred to in his recent tour log.
You must have some mind to twist Richie's words into a hate filled diatribe like that.
I still think it's unbelievable that someone could be as nasty as that at a time like this.
Sad.

I agree with @bam and smokie here. Yes, Ritchie mentions himself a few times in that letter - and why wouldn't he ? Rick and his guitar playing had such a huge impact on his life, Rick took an interest in Ritchie, taught him things .. Maybe he didn't express it in the most diplomatic way possible, but therefor it was genuine. For Ritchie up till now his life had been connected with Rick's so he talks about that, what he did and what happened in these past months because of Rick and with Rick's support and blessing. The great experiences he'd not have had otherwise. To use that to stir against the current line-up with Ritchie is poor and disrespectful behaviour towards the band in general and most of all towards Rick. I actually think this manipulative post should be removed, as none of them deserve to be treated like this. Done ..

To me it reads like a stream of consciousness. Which is what you do on Social media a lot, a friend of mine has had some amazing highs this year and posted that along with the tragic death of her father.

I'm not on FB so I don't know too much about it but I have asked a few people at work here who are and they say it's quite common at the end of the year to post your reflections on the year that is nearly out.
The highs, the lows, the good memories and bad.
Don't think Richie has differed much with his post and yet he's being crucified for it.

Yes I could say the same. In all I have had a pretty good 2016 great family fun was had, though the year started badly with the Death of my Brother In Law and now the sad passing of Rick ends is on a sad note. The Months in between were pretty good fun though, that's what Living a life is all about.

Richie Malone had some incredible weeks behind him when he returned home after Quo's last gig in Liverpool. He had stepped in for Rick - with Rick's blessing - and done a wonderful job. He must have felt happy, exhilarated and probably a bit proud, too, for having been part of the band he loved so much and to have been chosen to step in for his idol Rick Parfitt. On his return home he couldn't relish and remember all those amazing weeks that lay behind him, but had to face the fact that his idol had passed away unexpectedly. It must have been such a blow to him. My thoughts were with him at the time because I was sure he would take it hard. I read his post of course. It was written by someone still quite young, still very agitated, still in shock. He felt connected with Rick, his idol, and it showed in his words. I don't think they were supposed to be about Richie himself. He was trying hard to find the right words to express how much Rick meant to him, how happy he was that Rick had shown such interest in him and that he was grateful Rick and the band had chosen him to stand in for Rick. He had been on a high for a short while, and within a few hours his world came crashing down.

I agreed with someone else's views as I thought similar, and that opinion is disrespectful to Rick apparently, what utter rubbish,, we don't all think or share the same opinions,, Richie could have worded it better imvho, I don't doubt his grief etc,,
Putting fireworks on this board at a time like this, isnt disrespectful though ?

I have had enough of this thread, the more I think about it the more it agitates me and I don't like where it's going. Personally I believe that choosing to dissect someones eulogy crosses a line of basic human decency - I want no part to play in it, so I'm locking the thread.
