I'm lost for words really... R.I.P. my childhood hero, the single biggest influence on my musical taste, the Man I try to emulate, however badly, on my guitar. Keep on Rockin' up there Dude, the party's certainly not about to end. Your contribution to music will live on for my own lifetime, and that of many others too. I am eternally grateful to have witnessed your music, and to have met you. Just when we all thought you were recovering well... But you were right, it DID take more than death to kill you... It had to have several goes, you kept it on its toes and gave it a bloody good run for its money.
Rick Roper.

I feel similar to how I did when Freddie Mercury and Rik Mayall died. RIP Rick though the music will live on forever.

I'm sitting here, feeling numb. Words still fail me. I can't believe it's true. My heart goes out to his twins, to his family. I'm so, so sorry for their loss. I'm so sad. R.I.P., Rick, and thank you for the music. Inna, I can't believe you found out like you did (late at night by accident). Although there is no good way to find out. You just go numb and get a horrible nervous feeling. It will be strange in the morning when we realise it wasn't just a dream. I don't want to go to bed.

Lost for words. Gutted. Absolutely gutted and devastated. Just in heartbroken. I'm crying like a baby for hours now and listening to Ricky, having many glasses on him...

Got to admit I'm still in shock .. Having just read Simon Porter's statement from today - within a mere three days going from being optimistic and making plans for the future with just a minor injury hampering him to it all being over. What can you say ? Thinking of his family, especially his small kids, who'll be experiencing an incredibly sad and lonely Christmas this morning and who'll have to grow up from now on without their dad.

From Quo's Manager Simon Porter
On behalf of family, band, management, crew, Rick’s many friends and, not least, Quo’s huge army of fans, I would like to thank everyone who has sent messages of sympathy and support today.
It is very much appreciated and perhaps now is the time to reflect at the end of a terrible day, coming at a time when we should all be celebrating both Christmas and the end of another year.
On a personal note, I have known Rick for over thirty years as a friend, PR and, for the past fifteen years, as Quo’s manager. There have been incredible highs, numerous laughs and some extremely dark periods. It has been an absolute rollercoaster and I probably wouldn’t have had it any other way.
I really think that we all thought that Rick was invincible, given his numerous and astounding recoveries from situations which would certainly have killed the average human being. Indeed, early this morning when I initially heard the news that he had taken a serious turn, my mind instantly thought that he would come around by Boxing Day.
Sadly, as we now know, his luck had run out and his line that ‘it will take more than death to kill me’ has taken a hollow ring. Quo fans should know and take comfort in the fact that his passing has, ironically, come at a time when Rick was in a happier place career wise than he had been for a long, long, time.
I had dinner with Rick in Malaga on Tuesday evening and met with him again on Wednesday morning. Although he was in pain from a shoulder injury incurred as a result of an accidental fall, he was in good spirits and extremely excited about the future. Rick had come to terms that he would be unable to tour with Quo again, but he continued to be very much part of the Quo machine and we discussed future plans for the band. More importantly, however, Rick was ecstatic and excited with the news and contracts that I was able to give him for his autobiography, a solo album and a UK ‘evening with’ tour, all scheduled to take place in May of next year.
Sadly and less than three days later, all of our exciting plans have now gone bust in an instant.
Rick was the ultimate Rocker and lived the dream, plus a whole lot more. In perhaps the worst ever year for showbiz deaths, it is perhaps fitting that he topped the list right at the end of the year. He would have liked that...

Thanks for putting the statement up.
An indication of how cruel life can be.
All his hopes and dreams for 2017 snatched away.
I see that FTMO tweeted yesterday:
THERE WILL BE A CELEBRATION GIG, WATCH THIS SPACE.

A very moving read, that. Rick has given innumerable people so much happiness over the years through the band, and also through his support for the numerous charities he's been involved with. Let's try not to be sad, his life needs to be celebrated and appreciated. As Quo fans it's our duty to carry on celebrating the good times - Rick Parfitt would not want to see sad faces - He was always the eternal joker and enjoyed making people happy. He succeeded, the world over.
Rick Roper.

Same feelings here, exactly.... I went through the same with my Dad in 2011... One day he as at home in his wheelchair, and when I got home from work I found he wasn't there - He'd been taken to hospital again, which was a frequent occurrence. never mind, says I, I'll visit straight away. It was the last time I saw him alive really, as when I got the 'phone call from the hospital next morning and went straight there, he had already lost consciousness through septicaemia. It was so quick too, nurses said he'd been OK at 08.30 - He was gone by 11.20...
I just hope that Rick's passing away was painless - The poor Man's been through enough pain in recent years.
And to Rick's family - Live on, be happy - Show Tommy & Lily the many videos of Rick and what he was... He's left a fantastic legacy, and his will be a very rich story to be re-told down the years.
God Speed,
Rick Roper.

Cheers for that. I was looking forward to maybe a Quo PLC!But it ain't never gonna happen now. Still taking it in to be honest but there you go, a lot of our dreams up in smoke too. I'm sure all our thoughts are with all his family today they must be in bits. I shall raise a glass to the great man over my Christmas dinner. He's with that ever growing Super Group in the sky now. God Bless You Rick the Rock Parfitt my world was a better place for having you in it!

Can't really believe I'm writing this.
I had just listened to the live Aquostic stuff a few hours ago when I heard the news so I was definitely shocked but I would be lying if I said I was surprised. I think we all knew that he'd be the first man down; his life had been on the brink a bit too often already. Doesn't make it any less devastating. Obviously "Status Quo" are over now - very sad that he couldn't make the band's 50th anniversary or do the often-mentioned solo album but I guess that sums him up very well, since he gave pretty much his entire life to the band (and us fans).
What a terrible year for music 2016 has been. And I'm already angry that Rick isn't celebrated in the same way as the other legends that sadly passed away this year; surely you won't find a better rhythm guitar player anywhere else? Not to mention his wonderful voice and the great songs he's written or co-written.
Dear Rick: thanks for bringing us all together here. I guess it was time to go to where Buddy and Elvis still play shows, but to us all it was too early, I think. Thoughts are with his family, particularly the young twins who lost their father at such a young age.
"And when I see the angels walking around me, one by one..."
RIP, RP.

The more I think about it, the thing that I can't come to terms with at moment is that after all he's been through, the thing that finished him was nothing to do with lifestyle....a stupid infection (possibly caused by the hospital)...he'd be well annoyed! That is what I can't believe!

What a sad and tragic story. I'm so sorry for you - that malicious infection cheated you out of being able to properly say goodbye to your dad, to come to terms with the fact he was leaving. Must've left you stunned and shocked for a long time .. and I guess that's what Rick's family and friends, including the band will be going trough.

That is what I can't believe! This ! - And no 'possibly' about it. It was a a hospital infection IMO (either sepsis or meningitis at a guess). They kill extremely fast. I was lucky enough to survive one twice: The first time because someone else had died before me and the doctors knew the signs already and reacted quick enough. The second time because I remembered the signs in time and was able to tell the doctors.

Rick will live on in my house forever thanks to the massive back catalogue of music by the mighty Quo. I am hoping the band re-release a single as a tribute and it gets to number 1. My choice would be Rock Til You Drop. What would you choose.

Times like this make me realise again just how lucky I and in the first case my youngest son (it happend during labour) had been. I'm so grateful he's alive and healthy .. One baby died two days earlier, one is so severly handicapped that child never even has been able to sit or talk. 18 years ago .. second time was this spring .. took me till I threw up due to the pain to make the connection ..

My choice would be Rock Til You Drop. What would you choose. Not sure it would be a good idea to release a single. It would look like they're cashing in on Rick's death IMO. With their connection to BBC2 maybe they can come up with a 1-2 hour special of Rick songs - and not just sometime in the middle of the night. That's what I'd prefer at least ..
