After that tourlog - do you still believe in some such project and hope for it ? I admit I'd very much prefer it now if he'd stay away from John and Alan and any temptation to drink, smoke or worse. Not even sure a solo project is a good idea - at least without help. Hope the Quo crew and management help him in all aspects if it goes ahead and Rick has merely to concentrate on playing his guitar (cautiously). Which makes a ukulele album preferable over a rock album - at least for me. :confused4:

Reading that, it just emphasised how serious this latest heart attack was.
I'd love to hear a solo album from Rick but only if his health is up to it. Perhaps the pressure/stress of any new project might be best avoided? Nothing is more important than his health.
As Rhino says, hope this really gives Rick the kick that he needs to get himself back into shape and stay there. I really thought that he already had, especially when he talked about wanting to be there to see his twins grow up.

A ukulele album would leave me cold I think. Its alright as a fill-in sort of instrument but its not a lead. But I'd still buy it, obviously The Spud/Nuff thing is full of contradictions all over the place with some saying it ain't going to happen and others saying that it is. Just have to wait and see. Rick does seem keen on a solo project of some sort. I suspect he can probably still pick up a guitar and play it so I expect something to materialise. At some stage anyway. But it might take a while. I think this latest medical episode will have made Rick stronger mentally. He'll be able to resist the temptations you suggest I'm sure. He's allowed a drink, just advised not to take it to excess. Smoking he's been working on for a while. But it cannot be easy giving up a lifestyle based on 50 of years of abuse. Apart from anything else, your body expects the recreational additives

The contradiction is in Patti saying that it isn't going to happen while Spud says it is. Both Facebook and the TV interview are in the public domain.
I have no doubt that it will have been touted as an idea or cropped up in conversation. Both Alan and John are bound to have been in touch with Rick since the summer. To see how he's doing if nothing else.
Now I appreciate that Patti is hardly a spokesperson for Rick but they're probably in touch. Possibly never been out of touch over the years; not completely.
It is definitely a wait and see job. If it happens, great. I'll be right in there. If not, then would anyone be surprised?

Recording a solo album would be no more stressful no matter what the type of music is. The way Rick gives his tele a hammering is definitely more stressful than playing a ukulele IMVHO. I admire the trust in him being undestructable from some of you, but I think he has reached his limit and won't be able to take any more set backs health-wise. He might not stand a chance as dad of the year, but his twins still deserve having him around while growing up. The sad truth probably is, that he won't have that many years left anyway - his heart is simply too damaged for that. So all I want is for him to be there for his family as long as possible. If that means no more rocking out, well, he had it for long enough and so had we. Rick's priorities should lie elsewhere now, no matter what the fans want. And I actually know from own experience how it is to return from death's doorstep, how it is once you're able to walk again, then actually do things and all this much quicker than predicted by doctors .. You do tend to feel frustrated despite it and long for the things you can't do anymore.

He got so frustrated how just doing small things left him out of breath. Then again somedays he said he felt completley fine (sound familiar). We all want Rick to get better but how better he will be we don't know I would say he would be ok recording an album and it might be cathrtic for him to do so. However gigging is out of the question even though some fans refuse to accept that. Some think because he says he is ok he will be on tour with the tele bashing out BFM with John and Alan as if he is 20 again. That will never happen.

If Rick feels up to recording an album he will do it, if he dont then he wont, I, for one, look forward to any solo album from someone I regard as a genius and whose core was his belief in his roots, unlike someone else, who has totally sold out. You do remember Rick's roots are in showbiz and him starting out as a pro had been with the Highlights ? 'Someone else' has always had part of his roots in country music, so I can't see what's selling out about it, if he returns to that at times ..

I know Ricks roots as well as you do, but I fear you detract again, Rick, was the only real rocker left in the band,, as for the someone else, he dont care what crap he churns out, as long as some still lap it up and think its Quo I don't class people as rockers by their stance on stage and it was you who mentioned rockin' roots .. I go by the songs they write and recent rock songs have mainly been written by any combination of R/B/E and maybe Y, but not P (who seems into rock perciflage these days - see Gogogo ending or Let's Rock) - and I won't even mention the lyrics.

So, you disregard someone who does the business on stage, every time, but yet have the highest regard for someone who often screws up the solo's with his "cant be arsed/ don't really wanna be doing this" attitude then, that in itself, speaks volumes. Nothing to do with disregard. Rick is a great rhythm player, but it doesn't make him more of a rocker than the others is all.

I think Rick sometimes sounds like Alan; or at least the way many perceive Alan to be. He considers himself a "rocker" (whatever that actually is!) but many of his songs fall far short from backing that up. I personally think the term "rocker" sells him short just as it did Alan. They can rock with the best of them but are equally capable of turning it right down. Quo's roots are not in rock or even rock and roll. They developed into a rock band - a rock band with a genius for a melody and a hook. The Stones latest album takes them back to their roots. If Quo did likewise, the result would be a cross between something like Acker Bilk, the Everly Brothers and the Springfields. The perception of Francis as Dick Dastardly is wrong. Just the same as the perception of Rick as Lemmy incarnate.

There are a lot more things that don't make people great rockers either - like wearing leather clothes, naked chests, scruffy looks .. Rock is one type of music, nothing more nothing less. So either all of the Quo guys are rockers or they're not, but IMO it's as mortified says - all of them write all kinds of music, with rock just one genre and it's merely the general public that has them tagged with the 3 chord nonsense and that all songs sound the same. .. and I forgot to mention - Francis played most of his solos brilliantly. I absolutely loved ROLD for it ! 00008989

Yeah Rossi did USE to play the solo's brilliantly, that I admit, the last time was during the FF reunion gigs, but before and after those gigs I have seen plenty of times when his "cant be really arsed" attitude shone through & he totally desecrated immortal solo's No it's not ! RAOTW - that's three chords, but most of their great (rock) songs contain a lot more chords (e.g. 10 or 11 in Slow Train). You didn'd see Francis play on this tour - he was brilliant IMVHO - and his attitude was anything but your description. Not everything is bad just because Rick wasn't there (and you weren't either).

It is the same with heart disease and heart failure and every "episode" leaves its mark. Each succeeding heart attack leaves the heart muscles weaker and more scarred. Being surrounded by admirers expecting you to bounce back, as you did umpteen times before, is a recipe for disaster. Writing songs and recording an album can be achieved at his own pace in his own time. Not only does he need to adjust to his new circumstances but those around him need to as well.

I know what I personally saw at gigs I attended,,(and over recent years there have been many) his attitude often sucked big time, it was obvious he really didnt wanna be there, his desecration of sacred solo's was blatantly obvious,, to all but Rossi fans 107 I will say it again, and disagree all yer like,, Quo's name was built on the 3 chord tag, even though, as you state, many songs actually contained more than 3 chords Quo's name was built on the quality of their gigs, that simply blew you away IMVHO. The 3 chord tag was meant to belittle and ridicule them by snobbish media and happily taken up by others. It never was positive - at least not here - maybe it was a term of endearment in the UK though ??? ? You are right - there have been years when Francis' solos mainly consisted of string-bending and err.. jazzy improvisations. Not on this tour though - his solos were great !

A ukulele album would leave me cold I think. Its alright as a fill-in sort of instrument but its not a lead. But I'd still buy it, obviously The Spud/Nuff thing is full of contradictions all over the place with some saying it ain't going to happen and others saying that it is. Just have to wait and see. Rick does seem keen on a solo project of some sort. I suspect he can probably still pick up a guitar and play it so I expect something to materialise. At some stage anyway. But it might take a while. I think this latest medical episode will have made Rick stronger mentally. He'll be able to resist the temptations you suggest I'm sure. He's allowed a drink, just advised not to take it to excess. Smoking he's been working on for a while. But it cannot be easy giving up a lifestyle based on 50 of years of abuse. Apart from anything else, your body expects the recreational additives Some Uke tracks are well worth a listen;

I strongly believe/feel that something official needs to be released in Ricks memory, ideally a 2 CD set, 1 CD of demo's PLC stuff and the other Recorded Delivery, which I know is not a great album but I do feel it would be fitting to release it officially at this time.
As far as i am concerned the Rick tribute gig has been done, it was done with respect and great dignity at Minehead, with 3 of the original band members + Rick's son, for me that's good enough, Rossi & Friends no longer need to bother, far too late now for them IMVHO, yet another missed opportunity for them to show respect and credability,, again imvho

I fully believe something will come out but, as mentioned in another thread, I think there are legal/family issues that need to be resolved first. Royalties, contracts, rights, distribution, all that sort of malarkey.
Which means by the time something does see the light of day, a fair bit of time will have passed. A Christmas release - if any at all - would be apt and assist with any marketing. Unfortunately, in today's quick fix universe, marketing matters. Without it, no one knows anything is there. Because people do not go out and look any more.

I'd buy it regardless of quality. I don't really see me stopping now at this late stage Having bought albums by Andy, Francis, Rhino and Leon, a PLC album (or whatever it's called) would also be a mandatory purchase. I'd expect it to be half decent the same as any Quo related product. Some haven't been over the decades but not many. Half decent, apart from a few exceptions, is the bare minimum their recordings have tended to be. For this old sod anyway.
