Was a little worried at first when i wondered into the Arena with my brother as there didn't seem to be many people there, but we were there so we took our seats in block A and there before our very eyes were the Karaoke Kittens (you get the picture) they were okay probably see them on Britains got talent or the local pub sometime in 2017.A quick run to the loo and then it was the REO Speedwagon or was it Spinal tap i couldn't make it out i thought the lead singer was Paul O'grady for a minute then he started to sing and i thought it was Joe Pesci..........No sorry i meant Joe Pasquale (mind you he did sing a lot of songs that got on my nerves) joking aside, again they were okay highlights for me I can't fight this feeling anymore and Keep on loving you. Mind you the lead singer sure did love us all and especially Birmingham it reminded him of home, i thought he was going to give us all a kiss on the way out he loved us all that much!
So onto the mighty Quo or as they are now known Francis Rossi's Corporate Quo! I had heard that this band had a Freshness about them and played with a new Wave Of Energy (Wow i couldn't wait) so the drone kicked in and a few minutes later the band walk out on stage (by the way the Arena had filled up quite nicely by now) The new Rick struke the opening bars of caraline and the concert began, always has been a great opener (good job really as it's opened the show for about 16 years now) great start then into the wanderer (i waited for this new wave of energy to wash over me but.....no not yet) Something bout you baby.....Rhino...... it could've been Yoko(yes his singing is that bad) Rain..... Ohhh my dear i thought it was Tommy Cooper sings Quo at least it was a laugh.... Rossi did his comedy bit and introduced Richie Malone but no mention of Mr Parfitt who has performed stage right for nearly 50 years but there you go. Richie is a solid sound rhythm guitarist by the way, he's just not Rick Parfitt..... Softer Ride a great rock out song and great lead work from Rossi......Beginning of the end....Hold you back..... the medley.... it plodded on like a bygone year... Gerdundola,Bowns on the piano then the harp then the guitar the musical maestro knows no bounds and so it went on there were no surprises, the likes of Beginning of the end, Rain, Creeping up on you and the Oriental could've been dropped for the likes of Electric Arena and Bad news (if Rhino had to sing) but nope the last night of the so called Electrics gave us nothing new, and as for this new Freshness and wave of energy i just wasn't feeling it! i enjoyed it for what it was but this was my least favourite Quo gig in 39 years of Quo gigs! I looked at this group of people on stage, and for me this wasn't Status Quo, Rick was missed big time! So sadly me and my big brother are discharged from the Quo Army.
Rossi, Parfitt, Lancaster & Coughlan We Salute you!
Thank You And Goodnight.
