Fantastic song, the definitive opener and always was, and one of my favs, compare this to whats currently being advertised as Quo ( the main man rightly in the spotlight!) :lolflg: fish-head-smash-smiley-emoticon

I admit I was sick and tired of the song years ago already. Then came Francis' solo version, which took a while to get used to, but which I then preferred over the Quo version, because it simply was refreshingly different. With A1 - or rather with the Roundhouse (as that's what I listen to) came another version, which by now is my favourite album version. It never fails to make me smile when they switch to rock mode with the second verse. Yes, it is a great gig opener (and the idea with the start behind the curtain was one of the best), but I'd actually be thankful for some change, some other opener - say Hard Time with its build-up intro (not sure they'd even consider that without Rick though).

I'm from that Old Skool when Junior's Wailing was the definitive opener. And I don't mean that curtailed, frankly disappointing version that opened the reunion gigs. I really should move with the times

fish-head-smash-smiley-emoticon Obviously the concept of different tastes - none better or righter than the other - is alien to you. I'm afraid you are wrong in that assumption, of course I realise we all like different, its just some comments truly shock me,, such as yours regarding preferring the FR version over Quo's version, I have never heard anybody state that before. Regarding comments that have shocked me, since the Rick announcement was made the other day, here are some more genuine comments I have had aimed at me elsewhere which also shocked me You are not a real Quo fan if you want a ticket refund You are not a real Quo fan if you do not like all they do A real Quo fan supports them in all they do, even if they dont like it The Aquostic gigs are equal to an electric gig Rick Parfitt is replaceable, the difference wouldnt be noticeable Its Rossi's band, always has been, he can do what he likes There are several others I have had too, just as ludicrous as the ones above,, so these comments are also personal opinions are they not ?, sorry but even though I understand we all like different, comments such as the above are untrue, I would never accept them, I'm afraid your own comment regarding Caroline, sits in with them.

Your post was perfectly fine to up to the statement that 'comments such as the above are untrue'. No, they are not, they're opinions. Some of them strange, for sure, but valid opinions nonetheless - just like yours. I've simply heard Caroline too often, that's why I've stopped listening to regular recordings long ago. They bore me to death, same as WYW or RAOTW. When I'm at a gig though and Rick starts bashing out those opening chords - that's a different scenario altogether and that never fails to put a wide grin on my face and get me moving. But: This is the last ever electric and Rick's not there anyway - so why not open with a different song ? And I happen to love the Roundhouse gig. This isn't a good video - the start of the song is missing - but when they change the rhythm for the second verse, that Quo smile appears on my face - I just can't help it : And as mentioned before - it took me quite some time to get used to the solo version, but it's freshness is what got me in the end.

I like the Live '76 version the most.
