Derived from the 4500 Times thread, here's the poll to find out: Do we prefer live or studio recordings ? Is there a definite version ? .. and if yes which one is it ? .. or do we all love different versions ?
This poll will try to find the answers .. 110

Clear for me: I love the RTYD version - the sound, the playing, the 3rd verse ..

My favourite version of 4500 is the NEC '82. I remember a friend of mine going for a 20 minute beer break, as he couldn't stand the track, while my eyes & ears was served an visual and audio treat. I first heard the live version of this at the Southend Kursaal in March 1975 and was knock out of the shear energy of the 15 minute masterclass of rock. Favourite studio version is the RTYD version.

Torn between Hello! & Live! Of course, Hello! has the added historical significance of being Andy's first appearance on a Quo track. I also thought the versions from the reunions were very good, especially on the 2nd reunion tour, & surprised they're not listed in the poll.

Hmm, personally I will always prefer to hear a full version of 4500 rather than a cut down version, and I have to say that the reunion versions, even though they were cut down versions were quality

I totally understand what yer saying Dennis, and in the main agree with you, but the RTYD studio version is my fav studio version of what is my fav Quo song by a long way, nothing has or ever will better it as far as I'm concerned. Regarding the reunion gigs, when they reached the point in 4500 where it normally cuts off but didnt, the hairs on my neck and the adrenaline was at its peak, just proved to me again that Rossi can still do it when he wants to

The original version all day long for me. The live version morphed into a cross over between Forty Five Hundred Times and the previous live version of Is It Really Me/Gotta Go Home. Nothing at all wrong with that. However, for me, the strongest part of the song is the first 8 minutes or so.
In fact, it's the best piece of music I have ever heard or ever will.
My only other observation is that the more recent rendition was too short by maybe 3 or 4 minutes, possibly more.

The (lead) guitar on RTYD version was good but the sound was awful, lots of compression, and Rossi had just started using them crap pick-ups (or another guitar?). I liked the sharpness of the original tele pick-up
I was there again 1982, the one that most people remember, would have been possibly no.1 had spud been drumming.
