OK, first of all, let me set the record straight. There is no substitute for Rick. The man is and always will be a legend. That's the disclaimer out of the way Now, to the gig last night; I thought it and the band were outstanding. Really, really good. Flying in fact. Richie, of course, did his bit and did it very well. He also didn't look out of place. Rick's vocal parts were shared by Andy and Rhino but one or two songs were conspicuous by their absence like Rain and Big Fat Mama. As I'm a little tired of the latter in particular I wasn't that bothered. I won't do a whole set list/gig report because that'd be boring but suffice to say - and the bottom line really - is that me and mine had an absolute blast. I went in with some trepidation and came out uplifted by this marvellous, bloody band. If there's any other reason for going I'm afraid it's lost on this poor old soul. I really do hope Rick comes back but if he's unable to, the band is in safe hands until it packs up at the end of the year. Probably making a tidy little sum for Mr Parfitt as he recuperates. Now, I need to put my feet up. I'm in agony. I really need to be in traction.

Evening,
This gig was fantastic. Travelled up and back from Newcastle for it. Saw them in Scarborough 2 weeks ago, seated venue, and when I say seated, I mean if you stand up everyone behind you complains. Not as enjoyable as it should have been so I knew this would be tonnes better, Even without rick. I even took my 3 year old daughter.
I'm really enjoying the new era of quo, Leon has contributed to an excellent new sound from the band. Haven't been this excited about quo for years....so much infact that i've returned to the board, albeit in a different place. and its all coming to an end!

Haven't been this excited about quo for years....so much infact that i've returned to the board, albeit in a different place. and its all coming to an end! So far as near as all reports from this year's gigs have been extremely positive. Our's in Herborn was great too, albeit still with Rick. Maybe the fact that it is coming to an end has to do with it to a degree. I guess at every venue they play the band will consciously think it's the last time we play this, so they're constantly saying goodbye to places. And this knowledge of it being the last tour might have triggered their collective pride too - meaning they've got something to prove: That they're not a spent force, but that they're going out on a high. Going by the reactions of people who've actually been to a gig they've succeeded so far. I wonder how the band actually feels about all these last times .. ? (Although I'm sure Francis would deny there even was something special about it for him) Would be nice to get one last tour log(s) from Rhino ..

The band members individually seemed to be in a very happy place. I know the larking about on stage has always been a part of the act but they did seem genuinely lively, all joking throughout.
Rhino went up to Richie as they walked off stage at the end, shook his hand and put an arm round his shoulder. It must have been nerve-wracking for him while at the same time incredibly exciting. He did very, very well. Maybe the stage atmosphere was to help put Richie at ease, who knows?
Quo without Rick is very odd and I really wasn't sure about the band carrying on at all. But I do appreciate the difficult financial position they are probably in. I dare say many felt like that after Alan left. Or even John. Some have never got over it but most have simply moved on and embraced Quo in whatever mould they happen to have fitted into at the time. But this is different; this isn't a split. This has created real difficulties for them and they're doing the best they can with it. Doing a fine job in the circumstances I now realise.
We don't have any more planned until the winter tour but, I must admit, I've had some faith restored and really fancy one or two more before that. We shall see.

I have seen some of the video footage from that particular gig, and other gigs where there has been no Rick, no prob at all with the stand ins, who overall do a fine job, but for me, that aint Quo, its the Francis Rossi band
