OK, here’s the report from the concert in Pesse.
The day started not well as I woke up Saturday morning with a headache…. migraine ??? .
I really hoped it would soon pass as I took something which should have helped to beat the pain, but it persisted until way in the afternoon…. .
Arrived at the-place-to-be without any problems (except from the headache). Got a little rain along the way, but we arrived at the farm under a nice sunny sky. When we parked there was still a lot of parking space (free of charge, which was also very nice).
We got to the entrance and I saw some familiar faces there. Although it was around 16h30 there weren’t that many people waiting yet. I wanted to stay out of the sun… sunglasses on so the sun could not make my head hurt more.
A few people went to have a look at the side where we’d seen a few Quo busses in the hope to see someone from the band. As it took a while before anyone came back, I went to have a look myself and when I came to the fence, I was told that Mr. Rossi had been outside before (for a smoke)…. My Quo-friend who came with me did not inform me …. I was only a minute away.
They told me where I could see Francis.... sitting inside – probably giving an interview (hopefully it will turn up somewhere).
I hoped he would come out again shortly. We did see Andy and Rhino, but the one I wanted to see …. Just when I was thinking about going back, Francis came out once again, turned left.... When he returned a few minutes later…. I shouted “Francis… Hello”…. He wondered where it came from, noticed people at the fence and he waved…. Do I have to tell you that my headache was (much) better now? (better tell my GP about this ).
Anyway, back in queue where e-tickets had to be at one side and other tickets at the other side. We talked and when the time came the nerves started to come too: decide which way you’d run. NOW.
At 19h00 the “sprint to the front” started. Got myself a good spot between Francis  en Rhino.
We had another 2 hours to fill with a DJ Danny Blom… some good songs were played - some “not so good” ones too… but guess that's just down to personal taste. After all, I was waiting for Quo… and I spotted Francis at the side a few times checking his guitars…. Pity it was so dark there…. But the view was – at moments – just marvelous, despite the darkness .
Around 21h00 we wanted Quo to start… But it would take another 15 à 20 minutes before we got the drone and they hit the stage.
When Rick started to play the first notes of Caroline…. Magic to see them live on stage again after all those months (hé, the last concert I went to was in December). It was followed by The Wanderer; Something ‘Bout you Baby I Like and Rain. After that we got some Rossi (intro) banter (love it). Little Lady followed and then Burning Bridges. I decided to stay still (well, as much as possible) and film this song. I just love it. “On your toes”….. won’t bore you with the complete setlist but we did not get Gerdundula (would have loved to see that one again and have Leon up at the front) and no Paper Plane (which I just adore and was truly missed). Thankfully I knew there was only a slim chance they would play it as they didn’t in Herborn.
Audience on fire… band on fire… good connection between band and audience (always fun to get a smile or something from Francis …. and Rick and Rhino do make contact with the audience too.
With the encore a few people started to sing “Happy birthday”, but they went into the songs and it wasn’t picked up…. I had printed a few pages, wishing Francis a happy B-day (although he doesn’t celebrate it….). He'd noticed, but could not read it. After the concert he read it….
I wish I had had the chance to give my wishes in person . (At the same time I would have taken care of his finger as I had the impression he cut himself again as I noticed he pulled off a little plaster......)
I really enjoyed myself…. and the band, well, they were fantastic (my point of view).
The only negative point: the concert was over way too soon….
And this time the countdown of the concerts leaves a little sadness…. Do not want to think about “the last of the electrics” just yet.
After the concert we had a look around for a few friends I know were there too, but could not find them between all those people (read in an article the tent could hold 6.000 people)… although I had the impression that after Quo a lot of them left… as we did).
I am still suffering from the usual “Quo-blues”…. I need more (live) Quo!
Hope you liked it... Thanks for reading ;-).
