Enjoy, Ann, and everybody else who's going tonight. You must tell us all about it. There are hardly any gig reports on here (or there...). It's as if Quo weren't touring at the moment. :oo: I'm a bit worried about getting there tonight. It is still blowing a gale here. I thought my garage roof was coming off about three quarters of an hour ago but it still seems to be intact. herbst-smilies-03

Here it is ........ After all the negativity and nay-saying on here and elsewhere since the tour started, plus the weather, plus having been under par, I was in two minds whether to go at all. Sort-of-s-i-l picked me up and for once there was no congestion on the M6. We were bombing along, we were chatting and I was looking at my phone. Then I looked up at the road. Where are we going? The NEC came the answer. It's at the NIA! Turn around at the next junction and get onto A38M from the opposite direction and smooth ride to NIA (none of the road signs have been changed to say 'Barclaycard Arena'). I can't remember ever seeing so little traffic between here and Birmingham centre, I expect it was due to the bad flooding further north and gale warnings. Wilko Johnson's set was a good opener. They just came on stage, no mucking about, no look at me Aren't I great? No schmaltz, bang into it. Now I have a confession. I have never liked 'Creepin'. No, that's not the confession! It always came over to me as a vehicle for Rick to preen and wink at the women down in the front but last night something changed, for me at least. I can't quite put my finger on it but to me it sounded heavier, tighter and more rocky and enjoyable. :haha: In fact I enjoyed the whole evening and came out feeling a hell of a lot better than when I went in. Before Quo came on a man by me asked a steward guarding the stage area if it was ok to stand. The reply was that officially it is not ok but nobody was going to tell Quo fans not to stand as the fans would find it physically impossible. Even before Quo started playing the audience on the ground floor were on their feet and most stayed that way throughout. Although there were no new inclusions in the set the order was interesting. I would like to see the encore changed even more and get rid of JW and BBJ for good. The only good thing about them is that you're not so sorry missing them if you have a train or bus to catch. I'm sure they could finish with a better crowd interacting number. What I did like was that both Francis and Rhino managed to point and smile at two young lads in seats by me at their first gig when they came over to our side of the stage. It was a Christmas treat for them, I think, and the parents were nearly as excited at the acknowledgement even though they were fans. Nobody has mentioned the lighting so far. I thought it was clever. When they left the stage prior to the encore the back was lit up with colour. Then the letters QUO shone out in the top right hand corner. They faded and then a succession of white Os, one at a time, appeared moving across the coloured back. A chant of Quo-O-O-O-O subtly done by light! I was tapped on the shoulder by the person behind and asked if I was Ann. It was a Fb friend I hadn't met before. That's the second time in a week that I've been asked if I was me. On Tuesday it was by someone who worked at the same place 50 years ago. I think they recognise the glasses! BTW Leon is an asset. And yes I'll go again, and again, again..........
