Us, Jaimie ( one of our sons) and Jodie all booked, but Jodie had to cancel, she works at Wentworth as a golf tour organiser but she was
let down by her assistant so had to go in, shame, she is a great daughter in law, .
I did offer her Silver ticket, free, but no takers. ???
Anyhow, a 3 hour drive and we are there, about mid day, had a bit of breakfast on the sea front. Checked in, but you cannot get into the apartment till 3pm.
So had a bit of a wander. Butlins has changed and for the better.
Loads of people walking round in their Quo shirts, a little nod or hello here and there, and what a lovely sunny day.
Sat outside the Sun and Moon pub, Model on a little beer, Jaimie on a pint and me a pot of tea, well i am rock and roll don't yer know :lolflg:
Met Mac, had a chat. Hello Rossihaze
Into the apartment, the buildings are sort of colonial style. 2 bedrooms, lounge, diner and kitchen. they even supply towels and housekeeping.
Towels a little rough, nearly took the skin off me nether regions
Off to Reds, the venue for the weekend.
A big place, big stage, with curtains and a large floor area, and seating area raised, then around the perimeter the stalls. Well laid out.
First band on,about 7.45 The Charge, 3rd time of seeing them, play for about half an hour.
Next is, State of Quo, they play a varied set, for me their best song is ,Slow Train.,the crowd packed the standing area, got the weekend off
to a rousing start. Considering the guitarist had a heart problem a little while ago, well it certainly did not show, he copies Rick in all ways
Then Rhino's Revenge, who the F***K upset him then . Like Rhino, the band play a good set varying from album material to Status Quo.
The band play well together. Part way through, Leon came on for one song. Encore time, Paper Plane with John Coghlan making an appearance on the drums.
A good night. As soon as the bands finished, the bars closed up, good job, i was running out of money
The Model walking in front of us to have a chat with Leon. Bumped into Jackie Lynton, always good to meet up and chat.
Next morning, for me an early morning walk, again another lovely sunny day. We decided on a bit of late breakfast at the Sun and Moon,
got there at about 10.45, told breakfast finishes at 11 , so we were too late !!!!, so i asked can we order any other food, "no not untill 11" think that chap had been hitting the scrumpy to much.
So got in the car, drove up to Dunster, a very old village, hot pasties all round, very good.
Jaimie asked if we could go to a cider farm, so we did, don't drink it ourselves, but a nice place. There was a pig there the size of a shetland pony, just had piglets, only 2 weeks old and the size of a corgie ,. One was called Sandy,!!
Back to Butlins.
Met, Vivfromcov and Granny, what a couple of lovely ladies, had a little chat, always great to talk to like minded people.
But apologies, i did not realise Granny was quodlibet, you tricked me . It was The Model that told me when later on she shared the facilities with
the girls and they had a chat, thank you for the nice comments
Early start tonight, 17.15, for Stated Quo, got to be honest, not our favourite, some people can get away with swearing on stage, but not you.
Jackie Lynton joined them for a few songs, and one joke, that must of expired by now Jackie He has a certain presence when singing and
he is just natural, he does swear, but it's part of him, Watch and learn .
I will say one thing, the lead singer came and stood next to us at the bar after and did have a few people come up to him to chat/photos etc.
He was very nice to each person, like that
Rick Parfitts guitar up for auction, think it went for just under £7000.00. !!!!! please correct me if i am wrong.
Hello Ian, glad you didn't walk, don't forget bar closes at 12, (Houghton gig report)
Then a Thin Lizzy Tribute, Black Rose, on for about an hour, not quite on song shall we say.
Next, Francis Rossi guitar auction, not to sure think it went for£3500.00
On stage next was Status Quoing, a younger band, but very good, played a good set, go so far as to say, they were the best tribute of the weekend
Another auction, a pickup from Francis Rossi's guitar, £695.00. oh well, it is all for charity, so it's a good thing.
Followed by an air guitar competition, a beer anyone.
All the events compared by Mick Wall, a good job
Last on John Coghlan's Quo, , Oi Model come back , joking. Good lead singer, thought his skirt could have been a brighter colour.
He had just the right singing voice and when he spoke he managed to sound friendly like chatting to you at the bar. I think he mentioned Coghlan to much.
Also a lot of the songs were "slowed", Jaimie started going on about 4 beats to the bar, these drummers!!! i smiled and sipped my beer.
A good set based on Coghlans time in the band and understandable.
Next morning quite a few turned up for breakfast, try shutting at 10.45 now buggerlugs
Just sat down, then heard a voice behind, "i'm sitting wiv me mates," thanks for joining us Jackie, had a good chat, me tea went cold, but the lovely
model kept me topped up. Jackie is very much a Status Quo fan, he made a point, which he had said on stage the night before and that we all know
is true, but it's worth saying, you can come to a Quo gig,or convention, on your own, but you are amongst friends, yep absolutely.
In our years of going, we can only think of a couple of people where we have smiled or said hello and been completely blanked and they were here.
That's up to them.
Home time.
Thank you to the people that come up and said hello, never be shy, we love meeting people, except you two, you've had your chance
Last but not least, Yvonne and Paul and your team, X at least 100.
