Catching up. Train to Preston, taxi to hotel, The Brook House, Clayton-Le -Woods. Phoned the hotel day before to make sure about taxis to and from the gig. Told Hotel closes between mid-day and 3pm. different!!!!! . Got there before mid-day curfew . then decided to try and find somewhere for lunch. The chap that owned the hotel heard us talking, and said don't worry i'll drive you to a local pub, about a mile or so away, very nice. Nice walk back. Got back, The Model said she wanted to catch up on her beauty sleep, and of course I told her she does not need it : . Mind you we had been up since 5am. Thought I would go and sit on the patio and catch a few .
Is this a diary I see before me!!
A fella there on his own, also going to the gig.
Ladies and Gentleman, I give you Ian from Leicester. A like minded Status Quo fan and we had a nice chat.
Got ready taxi booked and a couple asked if they could share. The venue was on top of a hill, beautiful views, the man with us had a knee operation, we do find 'em, and found it a bit of a struggle, so we went on in front, can't miss the support band eh Boss. . They had chairs, so did not see them till taxi time.
Hung around the bar area, small cans of lager £4.00. champagne £12.00 a glass, taking the piss. Sorry we missed you anti and richom, mind you we were looking around, but we didn't know who we were looking for
Got to the front almost, yes I know Rhino side. Had these 2 sisters by us, 5 foot tall if they were lucky, asked them if they wanted to stand in front of me. No funny business, you dirty minds. One did, then they started arguing who was the tallest, quite funny. Their first Status Quo gig, and by the way they danced all night they enjoyed themselves.
Anyway on with my diary,,, sorry gig report.
On wander our 5 cheerful chappies. From the off this gig had a feel about it, every song played with meaning and showing their enjoyment, a bit of piss taking with each other. One day we might see the neck on Francis's guitar disappear up Andys jacksee when he is doing his harmonica bit
Francis seemed very settled and had a bit more of a chat with the crowd, and he has bought back, "this ones from the On The Level album" then into Little Lady. Although we more or less know what he is going to say, it's nice to hear him for the people there.
I thought Paper Plane and Wild Side of Life came across well, now why would I say that. Whatever You Want was the biggest sing-a-long song of the night along with Rocking All Over The World. Good sound, tonight, encore then massive applause from the 5000 sell out crowd.
Never seen so many cars trying to leave all at the same time. We walked about 15 minutes away to The Boar Inn, the other 2 waiting for us. Got our taxi back. Into the hotel bar for light refreshment .
Told you about Ian, well he walked back, just over 5 miles. Asked for a beer, she would not serve him as the bar had closed. The time one minute passed 12. Not fair.
Any how hotel check out time 10.30 on the dot. Train back to Euston then taxi waiting for us to take us home.
Enjoyed the whole thing

Lovely report Michael - and a new one at that .. Not serving the guy because of 1min. past midnight was very poor (business) behaviour though, especially when a few of you were stood around still anyway - you can tell it wasn't the owner .. It seems to me the band much prefers the summer gigs these days over the autumn/winter tours. Maybe they're aiming at dropping touring during bad weather season altogether and replacing it with more and more summer festivals. This way the shortened set would suffice, especially when you get a few more great bands on the bill - and Francis wouldn't feel cold (and catch a cold) that often . Did they play Most Of The Time ?

His board name on the old SQMB was meltonian...... his name being Ian and he is from Melton Mowbray..... I remember the name - What about you invite him to join ? We could do with a few more people posting and so many from the old mb are still missing/not posting on either new mb. And you start to forget .. it's only when you read a name by chance or some tag line triggers a memory, you suddenly think 'ah, yes .. what became of her/him? ..'

Perhaps the Dark side has kidnapped him, never to be seen again halloween-smiley20

I remember the name - Can you remember me from the old board........QuoMac ...... You were one of a group of people who rarely ever posted outside the non-Quo section - and I never posted on there .. but I did read, if not every time I visited the mb. Not sure how long you had been around, but must've been a while. You wouldn't remember me either .. That's mainly down to me having to re-register in 2006 as I somehow had forgotten my board name and login details after not posting for a while . And I merely changed my name to snakelady in 2008 (?) (remember when someone discovered it was possible to change the name and suddenly everybody kept doing it for a while ?).

You know, I even read through the members list .. and it was a long one .. desperately trying to remember who I was .. I wasn't any the wiser afterwards :dunce: I as near as never had a look into the covers band section, too frustrating, as none of them would ever play anywhere near ..

That was years ago - in 2005 - before I re-registered (I waited a few months, just in case I had a light bulb moment, but no .. ). I'm over it now though But should anybody have an idea who I could've been .. :lolflg:

Hi Curly, thanks for the mention. I enjoyed our chat as well-you can't beat a good natter with a like minded Quo fan.
I was well miffed with the lady behind the bar, not serving me at one minute passed midnight, I was parched as well after my 5 mile walk.
I was on my way to St Bees in Cumbria the following day as I was doing the Coast To Coast walk, which I duly did-190 miles in 13 days-not bad for an old un!
