Sorry for delay, been a bit hectic.
Friday 15th home from Spain just after midnight, packed our satchels, 2 rounds of cheese and tomato wrapped in foil
and a flask of dandelion tea,,, yeah right. A couple of hours of shut eye, up at 6am, Taxi at 7 and we are on our way to Kings Cross
Station. £35 to Dick Turpin and make our way to the Virgin lounge, bugger should have put me white socks on. Lounge not open till 8,
so will have to pay for food ???.
I have not been to this station since my childhood. Really has been done up well
All aboard, and onwards and I suppose upwards, change at Doncaster. A bit of a come down, got on a rattler to Bridlington.
Quite a few stops, one being Hull where quite a few "ladies" got on, all in hula hula type stuff. Two sat next to us others over the aisle
and behind. One start talking, I would call it shouting ,about the merits of a family size Mars Bar , Marianne Faithfull if that helps.
The Model pretended to sleep, I buried my head in the Daily Mail, save me Amanda Platell.
Arrived at Bridlington, so did Hawaii 12,0. Let them get in front.
What a lovely main hall at the station, not touched since Victorian times
Taxi to our hotel Manor Court, in a place called Carnaby a little village about 3 miles away and same distance to Burton Agnes.
Really nice hotel, lovely room, all fit and ready for my birthday girl.
A little bit of food then a nice walk around the village,. Not a soul in sight. There was a farm behind the hotel, thought it might suit us.
The Rock Farm .
Anyway. back to the hotel, and off we go, the hotel booked our taxi there and back.
Pulled up outside the Bluebell Hotel, looked more like a pub with rooms, and there it was, the back of the stage nearly on the pavement.
In effect the hotel had Status Quo playing in the Pub garden, fantastic
In we went. Really it's a small field, but it just seemed a great idea to have a gig here.
The support was on, yeah snakelady you've guessed, we got there half way through, thank gawd, as it was Katrina without her original waves.
A few were shouting out for Walking on Sunshine, she remarked it was a song and didn't like it, she should bugger off with the hula hula women.
I really dislike bands that do this sort of thing.
She played it as her last song, but it was more of an audience participation , thought she had turned her mike off. See you again, not us buggerlugs,
off she went with her new waves lapping behind her.
Time for a hot dog and a beer, well it is the models birthday, I don't hold back yer know.
A chap came up that had seen us at Cholmondely last year, nice fella, I like that. To us it's what going to gigs is all about,
nice places, lovely friendly people and a little bit of music. .
Told by the promoter both nights sold out, 3000 each night, but there was a curfew on the sound hence the early start.
Still fairly light, stage lights dimmed, the drone etc and approx. 8.30 our wandering minstrels come on to the stage, and straight into
Caroline . I know I have said it many times before, but it always gives us a lift.
Francis in his jacket as was Andy, the hard boys Rhino and Leon in shirts, Rick in a denim shirt which came off after a few songs to reveal
a Hauftipuffty T shirt. I put that in for all you fashion minded people.
We both agreed that Rick looked really well, and he seemed very fit. The rest of the band look good aswell, better say that .
The set was as last year, I have my views, but in the end we are just happy to see them keep going.
We are lucky we can get to a few gigs, but we appreciate, some can only go once a year or so, it is them the band are playing to.
And a bloody good job they do.
Always glad to hear Wild Side of Life, Again Again, Paper Plane, Fat Mama, Junior, well the whole lot really, near enough.
Francis moaned about the cold a little bit, my offer of thermals still stands Francis, oh yes and the fur lined socks
The whole band show such enthusiasm, at each gig, it's as if it's their first night, and the audience were not disappointed.
Rhino, if your reading, there was no need to keep touching your forelock, or was you struck by the way the sun had turned a bit
of my hair blond, see you out there.
It always seems to go to fast, Rocking All Over The World, off they go to a noisy applause . Took a little bit longer to come back on
for the encore, the little teasers. No Burning Bridges, just,,,,,,,,,, answers on a post card
Off we go into the cold night surrounded by happy faces
A bloody hour wait for the taxi, could not be arsed to complain, but the firm is obviously run by people that have not quite got the
art of telling the truth
Back to the hotel, a few San Miguels, aarrhhh it takes you back.
Taxi in the morning, not the same company, to Bridlington station. There is still the old fashioned Buffet there, it was like going back in time,
the tea was crap, but the place amazing, even down to the old boy serving whom was bent double, but had a bit of a cheeky grin
Back at Kings Cross, picked up by our boys, which was a nice surprise for the model.
I had told her on the train that they had all gone out, so she would not see them on her birthday weekend, cor blimey she had the hump,
still it mean't I could read the paper in peace :lolflg:
Back home our daughters in laws, don't like that phrase, what else could you use. Anyway and our grandson were doing a barbecue at
our house, so it made my little model a bit tearful but very happy,,, luv her
Enjoy Life
