Sounds good. Thanks for posting. How was John Coghlan's Quo? I'm not sure i dare answer that...a mixed bag for sure. A Year was brilliant, some others not so.

Well, what can I say? I only attended on Saturday so can't comment on Friday, except to say that those who were there were enthusiastic, about Backwater especially. I can however comment on Saturday. I don't know what was going on behind the scenes, I heard rumours but nothing first hand. (I don't always catch what people are saying in a crowd. (Btw I recently went for a hearing test. The audiologist asked me if I'd worked in a noisy environment. He gave me a very funny look when I said no but I go to rock concerts.) The Welsh Boogie Brothers were obviously having to cope with unforeseen problems but still managed to make us welcome. The included meal was first-rate with a choice of chicken curry and rice, chili with rice or baked potato, and baked potato with cheese and coleslaw. (Mac, the faddy eater couldn't cope with any of these fish-head-smash-smiley-emoticon. He would soon starve at my house! ) Whilst we were waiting to be let back into the Box a man had his long-cherished beard shaved off by a lady in an eye-popping skimpy, laced black sexy outfit. All in the name of the charity, Shona's Smile, supported by Quofest. Once things restarted we were really in for a treat. I had never heard Hercules before but I won't forget their intensity and power. Hard hitting boogie rock but melodic too, and all with a feel good factor. The band were enjoying their performance, good singing too, and appreciative of an enthusiastic audience. You could feel the two-way flow of energy between them and us. There was something in style like Quo at their early best but entirely unique and individual to Hercules. I would certainly like to see them again. Then we come to the headliners, John Coglan's Quo, which I had never seen but was looking forward to. What a let-down. Lacklustre and mean-spirited on the night of a charity fundraiser. A short set interspersed with accolades to JC and himself coming to the front only to harp on again about how three members want another FF tour but ......... Parts of the set were OK and folk boogied to the well known tunes but there was no feel-good factor whatsoever. One particularly crass remark from JC was "I thought there would be more people here". I just hope that Saturday was an off-day for him seeing that he is playing at Minehead. :confused4: Meeting up with people again and seeing some face to face for the first time made up for the disappointment.

Arrived at The Box around 3 ish and no sign of any action so went for a little drinky in the pub downstairs.
It eventually kicked off around 4-00 with Railroad and for a 3 man band they have a great sound....
Next on was ZZ Tops, now not knowing a great deal about ZZ Top I just said I hope they play Gimme all your lovin......... well they opened with that song and I was hooked.....what a great sound they had. I do admit to not knowing any of the rest but that didn't matter, it was all new to me and I was loving it and at one stage (because they had chordless guitars) they went on a walkabout and the lead singer actually went behind the bar and pulled a pint for himself whilst still playing.........
Wow I thought I wouldn't like to try and follow that..... then on came Backwater....at around 10-30 and were going to do a 3 hour set.... I can't even remember what they kicked off with but I think it was Juniors Wailing and I thought these guys have a good loud room filling sound and did they pick it up...... they sure did... one thing this band have is four vocalists and not just vocalists but bloody good vocalists.....for me there were two outstanding(and I mean outstanding)tracks which were Over the Edge(drummer on lead vocals) and Drifting Away..... I have never seen this track played better than what these guys did and the lead guitar was just sublime on what I imagine is a real tricky one to do(then again what do I know) They finished the 1st set just before midnight, had a short break then it was straight into the 2nd half..... at this point I was really struggling with a bad neck, I gave it my best shot but couldn't stay on till the end( bloody wimp I hear you all say).....all I can say is what I saw was 100% rock........ I thanked the lads personally the following day( I think I made their ears bleed with all the waffling I do) and me and Kieran(rhythm)had a right old chat about guitars and Dalmellington.....

Seems JCQ either were not aware of the connection of BB to Shona - but how could they not ? Everybody who has ever been on the omb knows it .. Or they were having a really bad day. Or something has gone to their heads and they're too full of themselves now .. No excuse really for bad behaviour like this. thumbs-down-clipart12

Wow! That's a complete contrast to when I saw them in Southampton last month. What a shame.

Hmmm....I have said many times that I don't think the Pred boys cut it when it comes to playing Quo. When John uses State Of or Stated members his band sounds and plays a lot better in my opinion.... Love Pred doing Pred but not Quo....

That's a disappointing report Ann. I'm going to see JCQ at Derby in April. I hope they have picked up by then. Me too! I'm going to McVention in May as well as to Minehead.
