The next album we shall discuss and vote on is going to be On The Level .. It's still one of my all time favourite (Quo) albums.

My favourite Quo album. It cruises along, plenty of light & shade. The complete balanced Quo album IMO.

F O R T Y years old? That makes me feel positively ancient.
Love the album though and looking forward to the vote.
Iconic album cover too and as in most instances, the cd format doesn't do it justice.

What about you add the poll and do the album properly on this thread, now that you've started it anyway and everybody is already contributing, Inna ?

I have never, ever in my Internet life added a poll to a website. So please, my dear Kathrin, would you be so kind and do it for me? Thanks ever so much. And yes, it's nice to see people contributing. I'm going to grab a bite now and maybe come back later with one or two things I can remember about On the Level... Poll added. Didn't want to do it without talking to you first.

Which are your favourite songs from On The Level ?
You may select up to 10 answers.
Who's idea was that to have 10 answers.......... that's all of the tracks........ its a Poll so 2 choices maximum would be better surely.........

If you had checked the Quo album poll thoroughly, you'd have noted, you could have voted for all songs as well .. Why is that ? There are people out there who actually love every single song from an album. I'm not one of those, I merely voted for 6 songs despite this being one of my all time favourite albums - but I love 6, can take or leave 2 and always skip 2. In the end we get the most popular songs this way as well. But if you feel this isn't how it should be done, you can always start your own polls under your conditions ..

If everybody would vote for every single track it would merely emphasize the outstanding overall quality. I'm actually surprised that at the moment we're at a mere 4 votes per voter average .. And you can't guarantee a ranking anyway, whether it's 1,2 or 10votes/person: Look at the 00s final - 1 vote merely and still 2 winners .

Thanks, Kathrin. And thanks for offering your help, Mac. I somehow like all of the songs on On the Level. OK, there are about six I like a bit more than the rest, and one or two that I've had to listen to way too often over the past years, but still... So I gave my vote to all 10 of them. I've never done anything like it before. You'll probably never do anything like it again............

That's your rocker -credibility out of the window then Well...imho it's something wrong with the production/mixing...there's not enough bass...too much treble if you see what I mean...a bit difficult to explain. Compare the sound....(not the quality of the songs) to the sound on their next one BFY which I liked much much better...
'Rocker credibility'.....bah humbug ...I love 'tongue tied' you know....

That's interesting - I've always thought that On The Level had the best production of any Quo album nearly, second only to RTYD. For a long time I merely had a cassette version of Blue For You and as I found the album a bit disappointing I rarely listened to it. I've only recently come to like it a bit more, but can't say I've noticed the sound to be outstanding (standard CD, no remaster). .. and I love Tongue Tied as well

Is Down Down really only the =5th most popular song on this album!?! Only 5 out of 16 people have voted for it!
Looking at the polls we did for our favourite songs of the noughties, I definitely think that songs that are in the live set for a long time often go down in people's opinions. In 2002 when Heavy Traffic came out, Creepin and Oriental were both among the most popular tracks. Same with Beginning of the End. Now though, none of them are even considered. Is it because people have got bored with them and let this cloud their judgement or change their opinion of a song?
Has this happened with Down Down, or was it never one of the most popular songs on the album?

I voted for Down Down. One of my favourite all time intros from any artist and just love the ending from the album.

Discovered Quo in '77. Went and bought the back-catalogue, and soon found On The Level to be the point where Quo went down a notch. Have always loved Most Of The Time though. Little Lady I never used to like very much but it's grown on me a bit. Down Down's always been class. Broken Man's a good'un aswell so those 4 get my votes. The rest I can do without tbh, I find them to be very mediocre Quo. If I ever hear Bye Bye Johnny again I'll not be a happy bunny. I went in an Ames room www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCV2Ba5wrcs once, can't remember where or when. I immediately thought of OTL of course.

So I'm not the only one who loves MOTT, but can live without LL - and obviously someone sees it the other way round .. ..but to call OTL a mediocre album - blasphemy :oo:. Go stand in the corner ! 107 (although I'm not keen on BBJ either)

I found myself selecting everything but Bye-Bye Johnny. It seems I like this album. In fact, it's my favourite one from the golden era.
