A bit late, sorry.
Had a busy weekend before the Monday so it was lovely to get up at 4am Monday morning !, to get the 7am flight
from Heathrow to Frankfurt.
Landing at Frankfurt, then onto a shuttle bus to the other terminal and station, then train to Mannheim, only took
half hour, 25 Euro each . Still cheaper than a taxi which would have been 120 Euro.
A good saving, but not for long, see later.
Taxi to our hotel, Dorint Kongresshotel, really nice. Put the bags in and off we go.
A Christmas market was right by the hotel, so we had a wander, but in day light not so effective, come back later,
in case we meet someone !!
We then toddled off down the road where all the shops where, the model saw a pair of boots she liked so in we popped.
See, I told you that good saving would be put to use
There was another Christmas Market, actually there were a few around, so it did make the town very seasonal. schneekugeln-smilies-0001
Anyway we had a load of pork in a roll with onions, marvellous.
Back to the Christmas wotsit and we met up with Kathrin, Arne and the lads. So, says Kathrin first we will have a
traditional drink, as my dear old Dad would have said "help ma bob" actually probably not, he would have drunk it and
any left overs . I must be a woss , couldn't do it. Sorry. Then a crepe , very nice, not something we normally have. The Christmas market
is better at night with all the lights on and a good crowd of people.
Anyway time for us to go back to the hotel to wash behind our ears and to put on our glad rags , See you in there.
Our hotel had it's own glass covered walkway to the Rosengarten, fantastic. We did not see Lou Gramm, but sitting outside
sounded good.
Then in we go, front row seats and more or less centre stage, with Kathrin and family behind us. Seats in Germany!!, a first for us.
The Drone kicks off, the band walk on from the side, a few twiddles on the Marshall Amps and off we go into Caroline. :bss:
I know I have said it before but as soon as the opening to this song starts, it always gives us a lift and you know you are
in for a great night. We were not wrong . We were standing straight away, but a lot of people around stayed sitting, their choice. The model made a "friend" next to her
Kathrin and family got on their toes.
Then, Something 'Bout You Baby I Like, the model always sings that chorus to me, lovely , then Rain and Paper Plane,
like that one,,,,,,, aw bugger like 'em all, well nearly, but that's another thread.
Actually just happy they are still playing live
Little Lady and Oh Baby fit nicely into the set as does Blue Eyed Lady.
Always good to hear Wild Side of Life.
Hold You Back is a great crowd pleaser, and if they can get on their toes, well it would be rude to refuse
As always there is a great connection between the band and the crowd, I like the way they are always cheerful, and also having the
odd chat, posing for photos etc, with members of the audience,
I do believe that Francis may have made advances to Kathrin, oohhhh matron.
Before you know where you are, Rocking All over The World strikes up, I think that got everyone standing
Then the encore, Rock 'n' Roll Music / Bye Bye Johnny, they will never change this, but maybe room to put another song in first.
Another great gig, Say our good byes, good to see you Kahrin, Arne and the lads, your 2 sons are a credit to you, Sandra said
2 fine gentlemen in the making. Always nice to see friends,
Back to the hotel, strange leaving a gig venue, back to the hotel without going outside, a few bottles of the yellow stuff, then bed.
oi behave, to knackered for any of that palava
Up and about, nice breakfast, another little walk round the Christmas Market, got a few presents, none of that dodgy drink though,
just a nice cuppa. :coffeeaddict: where's the one for tea ?
Set off home, same journey but in reverse, come on keep up :lolflg:
Now here's a thing.
Getting off the plane at Heathrow, they have these long arm things that connect the plane to the building, you know what I mean,
anyway looking in front of us at the end were 6 policeman either side of the exit, guns the lot, and we get pulled over.
Very politely one of the policeman said, where were you before Frankfurt, I said Mannheim, Were you on a connecting flight, No,
Very sorry to have troubled you, safe journey home. F***ING HELL, a strange 30 seconds in our life.
And here's me thinking he was going to ask for my autograph. :lolflg:.
A great two days.
