Sorry I am a bit late, as our posh milkman said, "Well here we are and here we are and here we go "
Originally had 6 tickets, for us our sons and their ladies, but work schedules etc, buggered it up So in the end us Matthew (monkeys unkle) my little sister Michele and a friend Wayne. One ticket wasted, but my fault, I do get a bit excited if I think I can get our family together.
I know get on with it, oi just because snakelady bullies me don't mean you can all join in :haha:
We live outside of London to the west more or less where the M25 crosses the M40, but in a house not in a caravan under the motorways. Decided best to get a cab, £100 return, still split 5 ways,,,,,,,,, it still cost me £100 , would not have it any other way.
At the Roundhouse, had to queue to get in, a new one on me, that's why you should always collect your tickets at the box office, straight to the front.
A good venue, last time here I saw Hawkwind, back in the 70's. The Roundhouse had a good atmosphere as you walked in, anticipation I suppose, or just everyone chatting.
Got down to the right hand side, not the best of views as the grand piano was in that corner, obviously they forgot we were coming Re-organised ourselves. This fella came on stage, explained we were hearing Radio 2, get away, then the news at 8pm, then Jo will come on to introduce the band, and she did, a little bit of a toned down drone and on they shuffled.
From let to right; Freddie, Rick, Francis, Andy, Rhino. all sitting, Leon behind, then the backing singers, string section, accordion and percussion and his bits and pieces.
Straight into And It's Better Now, a good song to start, and the crowd joined in, set the tone for the night, next up Break The Rules, this got everyone, singing/dancing Again Again next, 2 of my favourites on the bounce, but not quite what I thought, but still a good sing along
Me and the model standing together had this Scottish lady and a fella standing next to us, pissed, them not us, and she kept asking, "you in a band" and she kept touching my arse and trying to put her arm round me. I turned round for help, but Matthew, Michele, Wayne were to busy laughing. I do seem to get 'em. Anyway , again , "you in a band", yes I am, and that's my manager, she then said to the model "this yer man", she said yes, then my new found toucher upper buggered off. All this going on I nearly missed Paper Plane, strange hearing the song, a bit more country.
You probably know the set list Down Down, Francis, said I might need a bit of help, and we did help him
For me the stand out song was Pictures of Matchstick Men, the arrangement gave it a whole new slant, loved it. Down The Dustpipe, followed, Francis vocals spot on
At this point I think the crowd were on the bands side and I think you all there were fantastic, after all it was not your usual Quo gig. And if like us, we avoided listening to any of the songs before the gig, so it was all fresh, you did not know what to expect it really only took most people a couple of songs to get the feel of the night. But as I say, each song was greeted with a great response
There was not a lot of talking from Francis, it being live, there were time restraints, but it did not matter. The music did the talking.
I must admit it was strange seeing them seated for the whole gig, but it did give it that casual / warm feel.
Rollin Home got everyone, bouncing and waving their fingers about.
Don't Drive My Car, Francis admitted he never really liked this song, but was pleased with the way it turned out. It may have been unplugged but Rick still gave it that rock feel with his voice.
When Rain stated off, good intro by the way, Rick forgot his words, but the crowd were already singing it, he gave a big smile and said thank you, and carried on.
Marguerita Time,,,,,,, are we allowed to like this one,,, b******s to the dark side, yeah we like it. It was the right song for this type of set.
Whatever You Want and finishing on Rocking All Over The World, sticking to the tour set list eh, but with the string section did shine on this. Just like a country and western sing along.
Off they went, and back on they came Rock till you Drop and finishing on Burning Bridges, not told to get on yer toes, but the audience did not need telling. The bit where Francis sings I can't escape this etc , you could see Ricks face light up and with a big grin as he part turned to Francis, it reminded me of a youngster looking up to his Dad for approval after doing something good, really quite touching.
The band were off the stage fairly quick, due I presume to the interviews.
Really enjoyed the night. My sister has only seen Status Quo twice, once when she was 10, I am 9 years older, remember buying a denim jacket for her and we took her to Newcastle 2 years ago, but she said she enjoyed this better.
Wayne did say, it was fantastic and only a band of Status Quo's calibre could have pulled this off I know Matthew liked it and although he is a musician, he never comments on a bands playing, I know he admires Francis and his guitar playing and singing
Homeward bound, Wayne bought me a T shirt, ta, said hello to a few people on the way out
Sorry to have missed jay jay. Sent him a text when we got home, we were drinking tea and eating toasted cheese sarnies and he was stuck at Wembley station
Overall, they done a great job, we all enjoyed it, everyone there seem to enjoy the gig. You will get a few moaners but the band have tried to give us something a little different , so thanks lads for that.
The Models calling, my beans on toast are going cold :lolflg:
Thanks for reading Enjoy Life

Looks like you've done the job for me, so I won't have to write much in my report - just refer to yours .. Hm, I had to seriously consider - should I 'like' him for the great report .. or should I ban him for the line about the bullying .. ? You know it wasn't me this time, as I knew I'd have to write one myself a few days later We were all with you - either watching it on red button or those outside the UK following it on BBC2 live stream - and we had a great time with it on here !

Although different, we really enjoyed the gig, and it shows they have the talent to pull it off. Most of out friends have contacted us and said how much they were surprised and they liked it. We are off to our local tonight and I know a few will have watched it. Spreading the word eh Not just 3 chord wonders !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did have a look on the dark side, some of the comments, !! :dig: that's where that message board should be. Going on there next to delete us off that board.

I've thought about that as well, but it's not enough: That whole mb needs deleting ! ( ..and I actually think it won't last that much longer, as I think, with Ricky being a Francis fan, he's fed up with it as well) For now I'll stay on though .. if only to put up a link to this board occasionally

Yeah your right, I notice a few from there have joined here, but there's a few, well quite a few I would rather not.
Off for a walk now to the butchers and bakers, like to use the local shops. You and your family have a nice weekend.

Curly,
Thanks for the review. As always, it's appreciated that you took the time to write this and share your thoughts of the night with us, who, for whatever reason, couldn't attend.
Enjoy your walk

That was a pleasure to read, Curly! Thank you. Sincere apologies for the Scottish 'lady' (it wasn't me sir, I had a table here in the shoutbox with the others whispering and shouting at different parts) - glad to hear The Model saved you Lovely to hear the bit about Rick looking at Francis - very touching. Rock Til You Drop... that was something else wasn't it? Just beautiful
