What can I say? Sheer magic!
I wasn't as excited as last year because then I did the meet'n'greet. No comparison with last year. Last year nostalgia played a big part in their reception and there were mistakes on stage and Francis was obviously tense and concerned about the gig and about Alan.
Last night they were relaxed, enjoying themselves and playing at the top of their form. On last night's performance they could stand up against any band in the world. Francis's solos showed what a really good musician he is, Rick's voice is much better since he lost some weight and, as ever, his rhythm is faultless and John's drumming bore no relationship to that of last year, excellent.
The crowd may not have been as wild and noisy as that at Hammersmith but to me that was a bonus in that they didn't drown out the band. There was plenty of crowd participation but in the right places. I could see most of the standing area downstairs and the enthusiasm was potent, right to the back of the Civic, heads going, arm waving, clapping and singing. The few rows of seating in the balcony weren't allowed to stand but those standing behind the seats were well up for it. It is still possible to rock sitting down :rr-hbg:my neck is reminding me!
Unfortunately, I had to leave just before the end to catch the last bus.
Looking forward to next Thursday now, just hoping they will start and end 5 minutes earlier.

Great review Ann.....I'm going on Thursday and will be in the balcony seats, as I stood at the front last year and wanted a different perspective this year......I cannot wait......I've seen many bands over the years but I've never looked forward to a gig so much in my life......bring it on.

I was in the standing area about a third way back to the right and never really stopped moving from the first moment they stepped on stage.
My neck was still stiff even on the flight back to SA on Sunday night!
It was a magical night for me and one that will last a lifetime. I was fighting the tears during BEL.
Thank you Quo, you were wonderful.
