For those of us into bizarre past times, such as Alan Lancaster stamp collecting or telecaster twitching?

For those of us into bizarre past times, such as Alan Lancaster stamp collecting or telecaster twitching? So long as we don't have to learn the names of every F1 driver Good suggestion really (& good to read you by the way)

Stirling Moss, Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, James Hunt, Ayrton Senna - for me, probably the only five you need to know! The rest are all "pretenders" ... in my opinion!

It's great to have these 'dad' memories eh! When my oldest was growing up he really liked Colin Macrae, and we'd play the video games together of it - I loved that. Now the boys mostly like Kimi - though they both like Sebastian Vettel too. I'm finding I can't quite keep up these days

Kimi Raikonen! He's a good one (we need a thumbs up graemlin) He's OK! I tend to go for the more "classic" ones as they are who I used to watch with my dad! Classic ? So I'll add Jackie Ickx, Clay Regazzoni and Mario Andretti for a start. We used to live close to the Hockenheim back in the 70s and on race days we'd take our bikes out and watch the races from the Hardbachdamm - for free ! There were even possibilities to get into the inner regions of the Motodrom on practice days and meet the drivers without having to buy a ticket (if you knew the tunnels ) Kimi Räikkönen is a good one for sure, I'd be happy if he'd win the championship - but it won't happen I suppose ..

My most amazing motorsport day ever -the last Mini ever to compete in a world Rally, Petter Solberg became world champion before my very eyes and then jumped into the crowd about three people away, and Tommi Mäkinen drove his last event, in the shadows of the gothic Margam castle and the Bladerunner-esque backdrop of Port Talbot oil refinery with its flaming chimneys. Sadly now the most poignant photo I'll probably ever take. Colin, you were a very silly man sometimes

And my home town, venue of the most prestigious and dangerous boat races ever held -the Monaco of Powerboat racing, and a circuit sadly known as the 'widow maker'. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYFtmZh6xeE

Great idea btw Mat, and new board set up. (I had a "moment" there, thinking MrsMac had suggested it.)
Anyway, good to see folk coming up with helpful suggestions and comment for the place. Too busy myself to partake more just now, just leaving work for some grub.

When Stirling Moss had his big crash which resulted in brain injury he was in the Atkinson Morley Neurosurgical Hospital. My sister was in charge of his nursing and people from all over were sending him cards and presents. As he started to get better he became grumpy, probably to do with his injury, and criticised some of the gifts. An admirer sent him a whole fresh salmon (very expensive before they were farmed) and he chucked it in a waste bin. Our Patience was quick to rescue it and poached it in the staff kitchen and served it as a treat to all the other patients.

I would have been there during the weekend, Anti -not quite sure where or when. We could hear them practicing, from the house, each year. Driving them was brutal -imagine hitting waves at 100mph on a wooden plank, and when they turn, you'll notice they almost turn on the spot. The crashes either resulted in drownings or resembled air crashes. But the howling sound, the thumping against the water, the reving sound when they left the water altogether and the plumes of spray were unforgettable

It could be amazing to be there watching otherwise

RIP Stirling Moss Reminds me - anybody listening to Patrick Stewart reading Shakespeare sonnets on twitter these days ? He's into the 70s already with one sonnet per day ..
