to have some kind of password protection to stop trolls from coming on? I don't know how it would work, so if anyone has any good ideas it'd be good to hear them

It sounds like a good idea

I like the idea, but not sure how it would work in practice. How does one identify a troll, prior to them trolling? Anyone is able to view the boards, and posts. However, registration is required to be able to post. Once trolling commences (if it does, but I see little reason why anyone would want to - maybe I'm naive?) then it wouldn't be too much hassle to remove the post, and poster, if necessary. Good to have a contingency plan though, I like your way of thinking

I don't honestly know either Rich. I just heard someone mention that a few might try to spoil it - but hey, maybe you could just see how it goes? I really don't know, sorry! Let's just hope it's all fine and it isn't needed - and if it becomes needed then there are some ideas already been thrown around? Perhaps...

It is probably best to "cure" rather than "prevent" bad behaviour. So see how it goes.

There is an option of making the whole board invisible to anyone who isn't registered. I decided against that though - now't to hide here

I also have to admit to not being keen on the 'password' idea - even though it was me who threw it out there to be discussed based on a comment someone else made to me. Personally, I'm not keen on the password idea as it's too 'closed in' and sounds very select (could become 'clique-ish'?) which is something I'm not fond of. SO FAR we haven't needed to worry about it so perhaps the best thing would be to just wait & see?

Good to have a contingency plan though, I like your way of thinking we used to get loads of spammers on the old ff mb, I would nuke the feckers daily. in fact, why don't you slim down the members pages by nuking anyone who aint done a single post and joined in 2013.?

There are members who vote, but never post and some merely start posting after years of membership. When I re-registered with the official mb it took me years to start posting again ..
