Was listening to this album today, it’s a great album and a big favourite of mine but it wasn’t a hit at all and went unnoticed. It’s very 80s in sound, but if you get past that there’s some Good tunes on there. John Parr- Running the Endless Mile Anyone else got a fave album they don’t think had the respect it deserves? spotify.link/wuH4FdtZgDbyoutu.be/DG-e6PM4Isk?si=PP12GPF0dESg4XlO

It's a good question. For a very long time, that was almost all I did in my spare time; buy and listen to albums. By the famous and the obscure. So there must be loads.
But one that always springs to mind is this one. Although this is just the hit single from it. Very close to my favourite album of the 80's (certainly top 3) but I don't think it did anything chart wise. I still play it now. It took years for it to come out on CD. Strangely for an 80's album, I don't think it's aged that much.
I remember John Parr. St Elmo's Fire and all that 👍

Re John Parr, it’s a shame as I liked a few albums of his stuff, John Parr, Running the Endless Mile & Man with a Vision, but sadly all he is known for is the one song. But then I suppose that happens to lots of people. Thanks for the response 🙂

I was delighted to see the single make an appearance on the soundtrack of the movie "Atomic Blonde" not that long ago. I was reading about John Parr when you brought this up and he's done OK for himself. Worked and toured with a lot of very famous people. One of those unsung heroes that were often called upon like Andy Fairweather-Low or even John Miles. 👍

But thanks 👍 Like most deluxe editions, it doesn't really enhance the album all that much (loads of 12" extended mixes for example) but the sound is better. Presumably it was remastered.

I listened to some of the Reflex album yesterday and I do quite like it, again you can tell it’s an 80’s album and has those keyboard , bass and production sounds, but it’s still good. I do like the guys voice, it reminds me a bit of Gary Numan for some reason.🙂

Or the lead track at any rate. It's good. If a dodgy subject matter! I don't know if they've used AI or something on the singer because he certainly hasn't aged 40 years! Although when it pans to the band, they've become craggy like the rest of us I haven't grabbed the album yet. I probably will do because I like this. Maybe a touch of Frankie's Relax at the very beginning.

I've actually just been reading up on that 'new' album. It's apparently a collection of older songs that were recorded but never released. I did wonder because it does sound very 80's all the way through. I also just found out that Level 42's Mark King was in the band as a drummer at the beginning. The things you learn 40 years after the fact!

In terms of bands that only had one hit, how about Stretch? Everybody and their dog knows "Why Did You Do It?", but they were a great blues-rock band. They could boogie like Quo:
Perhaps not so surprising considering that one of their line-ups (not the one on their debut) includes a young Jeff Rich on drums. Here he is with the band turning a blues classic inside out:

Great shout, frozenhero 👍 I bought that first Stretch album and went on to grab the next two ( You Can't Beat Your Brain For Entertainment and Lifeblood), which are both excellent. At least one of them features Jeff Rich. They didn't bring out another one until 2012! Called, coincidentally, Unfinished Business. It's another great album.

Good call, I know very little about the band apart from the 1 song already mentioned and I had no idea Jeff played for them.
The 2 songs attached sound great so I will have to dig deeper.
