Not too many albums left, but these two are about as different as can be. One a standard Quo album, the other doesn't care about styles and tries to compliment a film (and certainly improve it ..) And while QPQ is rather one-paced, Bula Quo is anything but. QPQ contains many more tracks than BQ .. and there's certainly more.
So which one do you prefer ?
EDIT: Something went wrong with the copy and paste and I didn't notice in time. That third line in the poll should've read 'I like them both'. As so far merely three members had voted, I've removed it and put it up again. So to those concerned - please vote again. Sorry !

QPQ is more consistent for me but I have to say that BQ has grown on me in the last years, half of the album contains good songs as well. My vote QPQ

Tough choice and I ultimately can't answer it. Bula Quo has a number of amazing songs on it. "All that money" for me is one of the stronger Rick songs to have come out in recent years, while songs like "Run and Hide" or "Fiji time" really stand out positively as well; notably the two songs on the album written by Rhino. Oddly enough, I actually also like "Mystery Island" its such a ridiculous song but at the same time so unique for status quo, and basically impossible to listen to with a straight face, I still find it enjoyable for that exact reason, and it deserves a mention as one of Status Quo's most untypical and unique songs, right up there with songs like "Accident Prone" or SQ's proto metal song "Need Your Love". As for QPQ, I think the album is too long and there is too much filler. I like "Leave a little light on", "Frozen hero" and "Dust to gold", but the rest mostly passes by unnoticed, and songs like "The winner" almost give me a sense of dread when listening to them. Oddly enough as well here, I actually don't find "Reality cheque" all that awful; the song is almost as ridiculous as Mystery island and henceforth amuses me when listening to it, rather than annoying me. I don't like the album version of "let's rock", but when performed live it was actually good to get the crowd going and really worked well despite being by all means a very generic rock song. Bula Quo has too many weak songs to really be considered the better album for me, but QPQ is too long and has too much filler to take the spot, so I'd say they're somewhat on par. Lets hope the new album has fewer filler tracks and isn't just another collection of generic rock songs.

I agree with the comment that Quid Pro Quo is too long but I just take that as a given these days, as music companies cram on as many tracks as possible so that we get "value for money". But the good tracks on it are very good indeed. There are only 11 on the new one (OK, with the option of 2 bonus tracks) but that's a good sign for me. Bula Quo is largely underrated. It will always be associated with the film, which is one of the worst experiences you could ever have as a Quo fan (or as a film buff ) But as a stand alone album with only 9 new songs on it, it works superbly. I loved both albums when they first came out, particularly Quid Pro Quo but it is a little one paced for such a large album. So I guess I should judge it by comparing, say, my 9 favourite tracks with the 9 on Bula....
That edges Quid Pro Quo in front. But only just. Both appear to have been recorded in the same way with 3 different people producing and tracks being recorded remotely from each other as a band. Rick did a great job on his first credited production job. And Matt's one contribution is as strong as his previous song on …. Fourth Chord. Wish he'd contributed more There doesn't seem to be an option to like both equally; but that would be my choice. Failing which, Quid.... shades it.

I like them both for different reasons, QPQ has the strongest tracks out of both of the albums, but there is also too much filler for me and it hasn’t got light n shade.
Bula has more tempo changes and a lot of light n shade. There is also the Cack that is Mystery Island, but that is cancelled out by the genius Fiji Time.

I really wish that had been a single. As Radio 1 jocks used to say, it was a 'summer sound'. I never really understood what that was but Fiji Time probably came close. They could have held phone-in competitions asking people if they could guess who it was. Because they nailed ska pretty well!

Strangely, I do like the lyrics. I wonder if Rhino had a hand in them. It's a Parfitt/Edwards composition but, to be fair, Rick could just as easily have written them.

The song would've been ok as an instrumental - or with completely different lyrics. The way it is ( ), it's horrible. I'm sure his (then) wife will have 'loved' it.

I've gone for QPQ, although to be honest I haven't listened to either for a while. Bula Quo has some good tunes on it, so I think I ought to listen to both albums again to remind me of the contents. Might be good to play tonight whilst doing the church financial report - will certainly reduce the pain levels!

Update - I listened to both albums last night whilst drafting a Q2 financial report for church and a rolling 12 month cash flow. Made the job a lot more enjoyable!! However, having listened to both again, Bula Quo edges it for me as there is more variation in that. Although there are some good tunes on the QPQ too, such as Let's Rock, Rock and Roll. But I love Bula Quo (the song) and like the variation in the album.

I like the lyrics because they're tongue in cheek. Nothing more than that. It's not a serious song any more so than, say, The Oriental. But the bottom line is Rick could sing the telephone directory backwards; I'd still love the whole groove and feel of it.

It's about as tongue in cheek as Don't Drive My Car. He may have tried to sound funny and if it wasn't meant seriously, but he meant it - in both cases.

I've just walked a few miles to the shops and back and stuck on me new headphones. There's not much on my iPhone; just Quo stuff really because of memory limitations. So I decided to play Bula Quo! Been a while. I have to say it's excellent. It's such a shame it's associated with the movie and probably tarnished as a result. But if anyone hasn't given it air time for that reason, I seriously recommend you have a listen.

Have to say I am rather partial to the Bula Quo album, apart from the dreadful Mystery Island. QPQ is indeed a good album, but doesn't always hit the spot for me whereas most things on Bula do. Even the most un-Quo Fiji Time which I think is rather fab and should have been a summer time single surely?
