I think, first of all, I should explain that sis and her hubby saw the band on both the Friday night and on Saturday and that the set list differed both nights. Quite considerably from what my sister remembers. Me and Mrs Mortified couldn't make the Friday. Anyway.... A lovely day. Sunshine in Perthshire? That can't be right But I'll dispense with the pre-gig pleasantries and get right down to it. Mr Edwards and his little beat combo came on at 9 o'clock. They started with Secretary. The previous night it had apparently been Two Way Traffic. See what I mean? There were numerous Revenge songs in there, as you would expect; Spacemaker (a particular favourite of mine), Gravy Train (courtesy of the "Reverend Richard Parfait" ), Bad News, My Name Is Stan, Cougar, Mine All Mine, Republican, Spend Spend Spend, One Note Blues and Jungle Love (which morphed out of a cover of Mony Mony). He also did Quo stuff - Bellavista Man, Jam Side Down and Two Way Traffic.
However, interspersed within all this were some very unexpected choices! Back In The USSR, Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da, Paranoid (yes, Paranoid!), a blistering version of Once Bitten Twice Shy, the aforementioned Mony Mony and probably one or two others that I can't recall. He also stuck in his new song Never Too Old To Rock And Roll (already turned down by Quo incidentally) and an old Bo Diddley song called Before You Accuse Me, which was outstanding. After the gig, there was a lot of milling about as usual. Grabbed a couple of t-shirts from Mike Hrano and a wee blether then retreated to one of about 4 bars. We were sitting quietly the four of us thinking about heading to bed when Mr Edwards wandered up, parked his case beside us, went to the bar for a large red and joined us for the next hour or so for a chat. He was in good form and very happy doing what he was doing. He seemed uncertain about what Quo were going to be doing next apart from the already arranged summer gigs. The Francis solo thing was completely dominant and the rest of the band just had to lump it. It would appear. He was very diplomatic and I'm putting my own slant on some of it - which could well be off the mark. Mike hinted at a new Rhino's Revenge album but all I really got was 'watch this space'. We had a really good night. Rhino's Revenge are a cracking band. Anyone that changes the set every single night has to be respected. Glances at the set list, quick discussions followed by laughter on stage meant that no one knew what was coming next. I'm told they even did that with the drummer the previous night by saying they were going to play one thing but launched into another He also told an amusing anecdote about getting his pensioner's winter fuel allowance. He didn't know he would be entitled 300 quid's worth or whatever it was.
I had Quo neck yesterday but it's easing a bit today. And if I have Quo neck, I know I've had a good time

Fantastic glad you all had a great time, we certainly did in Winchester.
The set list sounded very similar to ours but he didn’t play Republican (sadly) or Cougar, as they swapped that for Back in the USSR, he said at the time.
They started messing around with Paranoid in Winchester but didn’t know the words so it was mainly an instrumental, perhaps they then rehearsed it a bit more for the later shows.
Nice you got to have a good chat with him, I would have loved to have got the opportunity. Did he recognise you, is that how he came to it with, or were you wearing Quo shirt?
He is a top bloke no doubt about it.

Nice report Billy - I see, that VIP thing again, socialising with Rhino No, seriously, I think it's great the way he mingles with the fans. After all, he's only another human being, just with a different job and it appears that's how he sees it as well. Maybe with his changing the set all the time he's trying to prove something to his Quo colleagues (especially one colleague ) ? Would be nice if it would work too, but somehow I doubt it. But yeah, can't be easy for the rest of the band, not knowing where the band is heading - or if it is heading somewhere at all .. Francis seems to still be unsure what he wants. One moment he talks about how great it would be to make a rock album with the band, the next he'd love to do another album with Hannah. I'm convinced Rhino will have an idea where all this is heading, but I doubt he'll voice it publicly (although, do you still count as 'public' ?)

It just came back to me; they played Get Out Of Denver as well. We know him only very slightly. I guess it's no secret now but we asked Mike Hrano if Woodedz would play at our wedding in 2010 and Rhino graciously agreed to do it. I know Mike from way back, again just to speak to in passing and I had no idea he managed them until years later. Never in our dreams did we think he would consent to do it. So that's how we have a passing acquaintance with him. Ali and I had always said we'd just keep it to ourselves but Rhino stuck it in his tour log and there was also a line about it in FTMO so we didn't put it out there! On the night, my stepdaughter got up and sang Get Out Of Denver with the band (she'd practiced it for weeks) and they dragged me up for Paper Plane, which I didn't know was coming. So, of course, I forgot some of the words! A bit embarrassing! We got the 'gig' put on DVD (just the band, not the entire wedding) so that gets dragged out most Hogmanay's once we've had a glass of fizz or two. Coz it was a great set We had Bad News as our first dance. Not only is it a great track but it's wonderfully ironic as a wedding song Two people in their expensive finery headbanging in front of open-mouthed relatives gradually discovering what it was we did. There weren't many Quo fans there but the band went down really well. Much later on, Rhino could be seen doing the dad dance to Love Shack along with everyone else. Which I think remains my most wonderful memory of the day. So now you know. First time I've ever stuck this up publicly. 9 years down the road

I already knew the story, Billy, but it's always nice to read it again .. even if I can't stand Bad News . That video has to be great. If I ever come into the Edinburgh area again .. Wanted to mention: The title of the thread reminded me of Michael, who'd always call his reports 'little' .

Actually, just as a little addition to the story, weddings are nervous enough occasions but once we'd organised everything a big, fat fly was dropped into the ointment to raise our stress levels! Subsequent to us sorting everything out (flights, accommodation, wedding numbers etc.) Francis arranged to record his Live at St Luke's DVD the night before. Freddie Edwards was playing of course and Lloyd Gilbert, Quo's guitar technician, was also working for Rhino at the time. So it was a bit of a rush for these guys to get to Scotland after that. They made it by the skin of their teeth! Well it seemed like that to us. They were all very relaxed about it. I think this was just another day at the office for them. The day after playing our wedding they drove on to Islay to do a gig there before flying home. Incidentally, had it not been for the small matter of a wedding, we'd have been at St Luke's

One more little factoid about the wedding. On the same day (this sounds like a joke but isn't) both The Queen and The Pope were in Edinburgh. Can't remember why, but the security at the Airport was insane.

I was there at the Kinross gig on the Saturday! It was an awesome night! Got to meet Rhino afterwards! My first Quo member that I’ve had the honour of meeting... and he didn’t disappoint. Such a nice chap! Was very interested in my opinion of the gig, as he said he likes to hear opinions from first timers at a RR gig!
Can’t wait to see them again!

Billy, it was really great to see you all again.
The gig was excellent.
I really hope there is a rethink about Neve Too Old not making the next Quo album.
It’s a great live song with the call and response and anyone who hasn’t heard it can pick up on it straight away

He'll find the lyrics too "hackneyed" to quote his opinion of Let's Rock (personally I'd throw Blessed Are The Meek right back at him ) And I doubt the melody is his thing either. It is a very simple song but when it comes to audience participation, it's no different from something like Dirty Water. To be fair, maybe I do Mr Rossi a disservice and the whole band can't stick the song
