Pete and Rog "have confirmed that they are working on their first album of new material in 13 years. Lead guitarist Pete Townshend said in a statement that fans could expect “dark ballads, heavy rock stuff, experimental electronica, sampled stuff and Who-ish tunes that began with a guitar that goes yanga-dang”." Link: www.theguardian.com/music/2019/jan/14/the-who-confirm-first-new-studio-album-in-13-years-tourNo mention of UK tour. So another one bites the dust. Elton John, UFO, Kiss, and now The Who. Quo's time can't be far away, but on the other hand if the Glimmer Twins are still going in their mid-70s, and the slightly younger Who originals are only just calling time on their careers, then Francis Rossi (only 70 in May this year) won't feel any obligation to quit just yet.

Just spotted this. It's funny, I rather like The Who; always have. But I've always found their albums very inconsistent and the only ones I have ever listened to all the way through are Who's Next and Live at Leeds. Both of them now pretty old. I never took to Pete's tendency to focus on 'concept albums' like Tommy and Quadrophenia. They just weren't for me. Give me stuff like Join Together and The Seeker all day long which means that their compilations are usually my favourites. Possibly the only band, for me, where that's the case.
