I put up the studio album, but I freely admit that the only A1 album I ever listen to is the Roundhouse. For me the chronological order of songs just doesn't work and the atmosphere at the Roundhouse makes the record special.
Most of the songs do work though, no matter the order - and very well indeed. Obviously I wasn't the only one to feel that way as the album was very successful commercially, not leaving the album charts for many a week - something otherwise unheard of in recent history.
In consequence my votes will probably more reflect the live versions. Putting up the songs I noticed that two albums are represented more than others - Hello and JS. I love the first but not the latter. And I've come to hate the big hits - in every guise.
Something else I've noticed - I've forgotten to include the acoustic albums in the 'Make an 8-track album from ..' polls. So I'll put them up next and then return to the chronological order.

I've ticked a few off. But to be honest Aquostic does nothing for me.

To be honest I found the album pretty unlistenable, only Pictures of Matchstickmen was any good to my ears.

Looks like so far those who don't like the album have voted. Would be nice if those who actually like it could bring themselves to vote too. Just for a bit of balance

Just for a bit of balance Here I am I'm of that minority view that thinks much of this album is a masterpiece. When I first listened to it, I was blown away. Honestly. The only track I've ever really skipped is Marguerita Time because it's quite faithful to the original and I never liked it in the first place. A few, like Na Na Na, are also quite faithful but I like them and always have. If I was being hyper critical, I'd say the album was too long. 25 tracks is a lot to sit through and enjoy properly at one sitting so the first two thirds of it I've played a lot more. The hits at the end have tended to take a back seat. Several renditions I think have improved on the originals but most have at least matched them in quality. I found it all rather splendid

I didn't mind the 1st album, but after seeing the band perform the album at the Roundhouse and the Royal Albert Hall the following year, I thought the live performances made the studio recording a bit flat. The live strings on tracks such as Claudie, All The Reasons & Rock Til' You Drop were so lush. Tracks I skip, Caroline, Don't Drive My Car, Again & Again, Marguerita Time, Down Down.

Absolutely agree ! After I heard the Roundhouse the studio album has just sounded flat to me, wish I had been there .. .. but yer not the only one to have seen A1 live twice - seen them at Stuttgart and then Hammersmith the following year. Yours were the more special gigs though, admittedly.

Just Rain and DDMC, (sorry Rick but I don't like either song in any format).
I love the rest of it. Have said it before but my Quo knowledge is largely based on live appearances, I've seen them 100+ times but there's lot of albums I don't have so A1 introduced me to songs I didn't know previously, Na Na Na and Reason for Living for example.
I enjoyed it for those reasons but also the freshness of other, more familiar tracks. I can't really explain it properly but tracks like Caroline, which I love electrically, somehow seem more laid back when done Acoustically. They're not as 'serious', for want of a better word and you can just sing along and enjoy it for what it is.
I really regret not seeing an Acoustic gig, I genuinely hope the opportunity arises in the future.

I mainly voted for the songs that didn't gain much in the acoustic setting. Paper Plane, Caroline, Down Down, Mystery Song, WYW, WYP, all kind of pointless to me.

Would be nice if a few more members could bring themselves to vote .. So far it seems to have been an album of two halves with the first (and older) with less hits and more album tracks the more popular among fans. I subscribe to that. There's a few exceptions in the second half though, but obviously the older tunes they had chosen were simply better. I'd have chosen different tunes from later albums as I think only the slow songs and surprisingly Rollin' Home really work. E.g. For You or Too Far gone would've been far more obvious choices instead of Rain or Don't Drive My Car IMO.

For me it’s mainly the big hits I don’t really like, tracks like Rockin, Mystery Song, Marguerite and Caroline, WYW and Proposing. The main exception to that is Matchstick Men which I love.
The things I love are the string arrangements on a lot of the songs and also where they change a lot of the arrangements, on things like Rain and Again Again.

The version of POMM is genius.

Mainly the big hits get skipped. The version of POMM is genius. And I think that particular track helped make the album the success it was. Aside from the extensive (but welcome!) marketing it got of course. They performed it on The One Show and two people in the office the next day told me they were going to buy the album on the strength of that alone! For anyone who hasn't heard it, the London mix of the song is also very good.

Overall the songs seem quite popular, with just the usual suspects getting more votes. I'm actually surprised that Caroline is so unpopular. I know, it's been done to death (and I can't remember the A1 version), but I love it when the second verse kicks in on the live recording. It's like they're quoting their own regular start to a gig. Can't help it - it puts a smile on my face. mortified - what is the London mix ?

It's a different mix of the Pictures of Matchstickmen track when it was released as a 'single'. It's not hugely different but it has subtle additions here and there. The sound might be a little cleaner but I'm not 100% sure about that. There's different artwork for it as well. I grabbed it from iTunes at the time.

The first verse is really different to how people know the song, but then they switch it up and it's just a thinner version of the arrangement they've been playing for aeons. I would've preferred it to stay in shuffle mode all the way through.

That obviously is indeed different and nice to have a version the way the song was written originally. I don't mind Quo hinting at a Quo version, rather enjoy it actually, but as always, it's down to taste.

Overall for me I love BOTH of the Aquostic albums as it shows a lot more versatility within the band,
Unlike some other fans I like it when they try something different. It may not all be good, but I applaud them for trying .
