Along came a new decade - and Quo were back, finally, after a decade of sub-standard or at least un-Quo albums - at least IMO. Now I could go on and talk about all the things that make the album great, but this is a poll about the negatives. There isn't a lot of that on RTYD though. I did find them covering their own songs a little irritating, but as most of these were very good to brilliant (4500x !) I didn't mind. The only re-recording I didn't get at all was Tommy, because it was a) a new song from their last album - why record it twice in a row ? - and b) I had hated it on PR and it didn't get any better with repeating. Must've been some weird personal thing for Francis .. I could've done without some of the covers from other bands too, but they weren't that many to subtract from the overall impression of the album. After all it was the first album they had really made good use of the CD formate with it containing 16 songs. So there was enough left for me to love. And at the time I wasn't aware it was a sign of things to come - namely the covers albums. The one original song that has never done anything for me is No Problems. Remarkable though that Francis and Rick did write together.

Tin hat time...I prefer this version of 4500 Times, slightly better then the original Hello! version, but the live NEC '82 is my favorite. Must admit, I haven't played this album for a while.

I approached this album with caution after the two preceding singles, The Anniversary Waltz 1 & 2, very successful yet ultimately embarrassing, I mean, competing with Jive Bunny ferchristsake!
So,lets spin the album and Like A Zombie has a bit of vim, a good sign (see what I did there?)
But then...Polly, I just hate this sort of song, and Quo have done a few of 'em!
Followed by Fakin'... another type of song I abhor. Not looking good now!
But OMG!! OMB!! What a cracker
RTYD, I do Like this one!
CGYM, never liked it on RAOTW, this is slightly better but still somehow pointless, the same could be said of Tommy.
The rest is pretty good.
The best since 1981!!

I'm actually surprised Fakin' The Blues is so unpopular - I think it's great ! - Oh yep, and did I mention - I love Fame Or Money as well Agree with kursaal75 - this is the best 4500x studio version - brilliant ! .. and CGYM is far, far better than Tommy, which is a serious contender for worst Quo song ever !

I'm actually surprised Fakin' The Blues is so unpopular - I think it's great ! I agree with you....it's got almost as many votes as 'Not at All' already! They're similar songs, but personally I much prefer Fakin. I wasn't all that keen on it (FTB) when the album first came out, but it grew on me (I got more into the earlier more bluesy Quo albums) and I love it now.

Only found this album when I got back into Quo around 2010/11.
I don’t really play it much but there’s some decent tracks on it...I really like Like a Zombie, although Tommy is just awful and cringeworthy.
Can’t agree on 4500x though...,much prefer the original on Hello.

Can’t agree on 4500x though...,much prefer the original on Hello.Fair enough. Is it something you prefer about the sound, or the playing etc. Or do you just prefer it because it's the original and you don't think it should've been messed with? I prefer the later version, I like the sound and the fact that it's 5 minutes longer; but I do think the original has a certain freshness that the later version doesn't (obviously as it was 18 years later)!

I usually listen to the complete album whenever I choose to give it a spin - with the exception of two songs -, but after one or two rounds, I tend to skip one or two more. I love Canned Heat's Let's work together, but I'm not too fond of Quo's version, I have to admit. Skip in round two. I don't really like Can't give you more, so it gets skipped in round two at the latest. Fakin' the Blues tends to get boring after one listen, so skip in round two as well. I always skip Tommy and Warning Shot. I'm surprised you don't like Warning Shot. It's so typical Andy IMO including lyrics that actually have content to think about. Same type of song as Lover Of The Human Race from Thirsty Work - one of the very few songs from that album that I actually like. So did you vote for all four or just the last two ?

When the album was first released and until some time after, I only ever skipped Tommy. It's a style of song that I just don't like. Reminds me of 50's crooning a la Pat Boone or The Platters. Similar to Beautiful three years later. And equally disposable for me. I think I read that the band (via Rhino somewhere) felt that they didn't get Tommy's In Love right first time round so they had another go. I'm not sure what it is they were trying to achieve but they're not exactly wildly different versions. Since 1991 I've tended to skip Fakin' The Blues. I just find it a bit plodding and dull and was surprised when it was pressed for release as a single. They don't do Let's Work Together any great justice either but it is listenable. Even Canned Heat's version was a cover to be fair. So that's two skipped tracks I guess. And out of 16 that's pretty good going. A huge improvement on it's immediate predecessors and a terrific (if temporary!) surprise at the time. The re-recording of Forty Five Hundred Times was done (I think) to signal the approaching demise of the long version in the live set. So it was recorded for posterity. A great version but not as good as the original for me. Nothing actually is. The vinyl, of course, only had the 10 tracks on it. So the other 6 were sort of CD bonuses. By the way, Warning Shot is brilliant and one of the best things the band have ever written. P.S. Tommy will win this by the proverbial mile. We all know that

CGYM, never liked it on RAOTW, this is slightly better but still somehow pointless... 'Can't Give You More' was re-recorded as it was apparently to be used in an advert for a well know brand of bottled water, but the deal never materialised.

I think it was for Perrier sparkling water but a scandal ensued at the time about the alleged purity of the product. Trust Quo. They always could pick 'em

I don't think many people appreciated this. You obviously do The original is superb. It was the music on an advert not all that long ago. Actually, I think there are at least two versions by Mr Harrison.

I can’t remember why he did this

No problems and Nothings comes easy, I like both of them two. Is there any Quo song that nobody likes, in their full catalogue? I am not a fan of Tomy, but I do not skip it. I skip fame or money.

I've yet to find anyone with a good word to say about Restless but I dare say there's some lunatic out there Mystery Island springs to mind first ! Restless is no better or worse than Sorry IMO. It was just the first one that came to mind and the one most often quoted. I appreciate there are other contenders . Mystery Island is pretty grim but I tend to give it the benefit of the doubt because of the context in which it was written. It would never have made any other Quo album.

Got to say though, that the rest of the album is so good, it would be unfair to not simply forget about the film and just enjoy it as a Quo album. .. although that way MI stands out somewhat in a negative sense ..

Totally agree 100%. When some critic or other talks about "hidden gems" Bula Quo! fits perfectly into that category. Hugely underrated even by Quo fans.
