I've decided to break the format and throw in an extra one! The reason being, that the way the albums fall doesn't always match certain albums up against each other. This is one of those pairings that I feel would be interesting to know what people think, as I think they are similar albums in a similar style. We've just had these 2 albums on the 'tracks you don't like' poll as well, so they've been well discussed recently.
So lets get voting and get a few thoughts comparing the two this week, and then I'll continue with BFY v RAOTW next week.
On the Level
Little Lady (Parfitt) Most Of The Time (Rossi/Young) I Saw The Light (Rossi/Young) Over And Done (Lancaster) Nightride (Parfitt/Young) Down Down (Rossi/Young) Broken Man (Lancaster) What To Do (Rossi/Young) Where I Am (Parfitt) Bye Bye Johnny (Berry)
Blue for You
Is There A Better Way (Lancaster/Rossi) Mad About The Boy (Rossi/Young) Ring Of A Change (Young/Rossi) Blue For You (Lancaster) Rain (Parfitt) Rolling Home (Lancaster/Rossi) That's A Fact (Rossi/Young) Ease Your Mind (Lancaster) Mystery Song (Parfitt/Young)

I've started us off by voting for On the Level, always been one of my top 5 Quo albums, with one of my favourite tracks Down Down on it.
Of the 'classic albums' (PD - BFY) BFY is probably my least favourite. It's not that I don't like it or don't play it, I do. Just that I think it has less standout songs on it and more average songs, and ranking the classic albums 1 - 5 it would come in at number 5. I do love Rain and Mystery Song, but there aren't any 'non-single' album tracks that I think are fantastic, and on the other albums there are plenty.

Love them both equally. Can't split them. They both have their 'not quite sure about that' track for me with Bye Bye Johnny and Ease Your Mind but both were good enough for me not to skip them. Not right away anyway. Both 10 out of 10 because the 4 that came before them were 11 out of 10's

I could quite easily have voted for both here but BFY by the tiniest of majorities for me. Only because I think BFY rocked just that little bit more but with still great hooks and melodies.

OTL, again, same as most of the time .. It would win against most Quo albums. And then you'd have to put it up against itself in the next round (please avoid pairings vs. Hello, RAOTW or ISOTFC ! )

BFY, only because it ain't as poppy as OTL, which is also a fine album by the way

Seems I'm in the minority since I prefer the somewhat looser and less serious BFY to the slightly monotonous OTL.

Well it's 9-4 (or 10-6 if you count the split votes); so as of now I declare On the Level the winner. Both really good / great albums, the last 2 of the so called classic albums, both with some classic (and still played live 40 years later) tracks on them. Thanks for voting - enjoy!

It doesn't change its style around as much as other Quo albums. Sure, it's more consistent than Piledriver, but I'll take variety over consistency. Face it, of the classic run OTL is the one album that you shouldn't play to people who think all Quo songs sound alike.

I know it's all about taste and perception, but they do not sound similar for me. IMO they've got songs that break the pattern on nearly all albums, maybe with the exception of QPQ.

That's why I said "half" Not sure how I can say this any better, but on OTL they used a rather narrow palette of sounds... at least compared the preceding and following albums. I still prefer it to Quo though.
