Now I'll start with an apology, some folk won't like this but..... the wife, who by her own admission is not a Quo fan but has seen them many times, including the FF 4 times, said tonight was the best Quo gig she's been to. She felt the injection of youth was a great thing.
It wasn't my greatest gig but it was far from my worst. Pains me to say it but I didn't miss Rick. That's not meant disrespectfully but it's how I feel.
Full report to follow tomorrow, when the many pints have worn off.

Was at the gig last night and thought they were superb. Heaviest I've heard them for a long time. Full marks to Richie for doing a sterling job in the absence of Rick. Couldn't help but feel sad walking out though knowing it's more than likely the last time I will ever see them live.

I didn't do a report of the Cardiff gig. I just never got round to it. But I know where you're coming from. I did pass a comment to my sweaty spouse at the start of Whatever You Want that I thought the sound of Richie's guitar was pretty feckin' awesome. Heavier than I think I've ever heard from this band but who is that down to? Himself? Lloyd? Andy May? Richie has also added backing vocals. I don't recall that during the one previous time I saw the band with him. My wife is and always has been a huge Rick fan (as am I) but is, eh, mature enough not to let his absence get in the way of a good time. Like "Bam", it wasn't my greatest ever Quo gig - far from it - but it was still good. Another noticeable thing was that the "choreography" has changed. The movement on stage is greater than it has been for quite a while. All of them all over the stage throughout. I shall reserve total judgement until I've listened to some of the live recordings I've downloaded recently (Zurich, Amsterdam, London). That's where the sheer enjoyment of a gig becomes a more accurate critical assessment

After all she had been on the official mb. Wasn't she Aliquo or similar ?

Yep, Aliquo, for it is she. With her Rick avatar. And Rick signature tattoo She's actually not interested in these message boards any more and prefers to keep updated on Facebook. I actually think there is more (and quicker) information on here. About the band and their releases anyway.

More in depth review a day later than promised, must have been a bad pint or something but I felt 77 yesterday.
Anyhow, cracking day/night in Leeds. Arrived in the City mid day, both me and the wife used to work in Leeds so we know it fairly well and therefore headed to Browns cocktail bar for our first drink of the day. Pint of Pale Ale for me and a cocktail for Katie, £11! ???
Needless to say we just had the one, quick look round the German market and then went off to find the New Roscoe where Stated Quo were playing. Fair to say it was a bit different to Browns, the type of pub where you wipe your feet on the way out. Katie was most miffed that they didn't serve cocktails but it was considerably cheaper and I have to say the staff and punters were all bob on. Stated were playing in a separate room which we got in fairly early, found a table close to the bar/stage/ladies so all were happy.
Second time I've seen Stated Quo and have to say they are fantastic. Highlights for me were a full version of Mystery Song and the only time I've ever heard Runaway played live. Had to record a bit of it on my phone to send to my older brother at it's his all time fave Quo song, if I get chance I'll upload it later on. By the time they got round to Roadhouse Blues and the 'bit' the place was bouncing, myself included.
After they finished we made our way back across town to a Wetherspoons for tea, (I know how to treat a girl). We then made our way to Leeds Arena itself. I've been there twice before, once for Clapton and earlier this year for Europe's strongest man. Both times I was right up at the back/top and it's very high/steep up there. Gladly I was more organised for Quo and the tickets were nearer/lower (row w). We saw about 20 minutes or so of REO Speedwagon, not really my cup of tea but the two songs I knew were decent enough.
Then the lights dimmed and on came Quo. After all these years/gigs it still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up now when that happens. Caroline burst into life, I immediately jumped up out of my seat, happy days. I sat back down for the Wanderer which is when I noticed the first major difference, when Andy started to sing. I don't know why it caught me out, was just odd having no one at the mikes down the front and yet someone was singing. Have to say I really liked Andy's voice - he did a great job.
As others have said, I thought the sound was brilliant, perfect in fact. I'd love to tell you what Rhino sounded like in Rain but I cannot stand the song, no matter who's singing it (and I'd already endured it earlier in the day), so I headed to the bar for that one. Highlights for me were Caroline, Paper Plane, HYB and oddly, WYW/Down Down. I say oddly as that section after the drum solo has never massively appealed to me (I dislike ROLD as much as Rain) but they sounded great this time round.
As Mortified has said above the 'routine' on stage was very different, there almost was no routine, if that makes sense. I think that's what I found refreshing about the gig, despite the awfully stale set list. It didn't feel like the last time I'm ever going to see the band - I sincerely hope it's not.

On this board, to see positive reveiws is to be fully expected, elsewhere they are getting slated. For some to state they didnt miss Rick is imvho totally disrespectful to the man himselfI do get where you're coming from and to a degree I agree (despite me being one of the 'some'). I almost feel guilty but I have to be honest and during the gig, when I had my head down, having a great time, it just didn't enter my head. I guess the other thing is where do you draw the line? Should everyone who's been to a gig post '84 feel guilty because Alan wasn't there, (now that's a whole other debate)?
