Ah, a man after my own heart. I really liked Thin Lizzy during those halcyon late 70's/early 80's days, especially live. But I never took to Black Rose. I always thought their best was Bad Reputation but I guess it's all down to taste. I also liked Chinatown. Snowy White was as close to Brian Robertson as they ever got again. So we are both weird then!! Weird is good. Sometimes Stand out from the crowd. Or just avoid the crowd. Some folk would find that even weirder

This is one Thin Lizzy track that rarely gets a mention Angel from the Coast (Jailbeak) Terrific track that While we're here, that's the first time I've actually sat and looked at the album sleeve in any detail. It seems to have only 3 band members (Lynott, Downey & Robertson?) on the little video screen so is that meant to be Scott Gorham watching over them? I'm probably over thinking it but I've never really noticed that before. It's only taken me 46 years

So been a couple of days but here are the gems for the day
Medicine at Midnight - Foo Fighters An Hour Before It's Dark - Marillion (I didn't think I liked Hogarth era Marillion but this is superb) The Greatest Hits So Far - Public Image Ltd Kick Start the Sun - Cats in Space (I know I play it a lot) Inform-Educate-Entertain - Public Service Broadcasting

Bit of an obscure one this but I was looking for something the other week and discovered that the lead singer, Pix, was found dead in Spain last year. I used to really like this band in the 70's. They were originally called A Band Called O then changed to The O Band. Originally from Jersey, I think. They had a couple of appearances on the Old Grey Whistle test but never really had much success. Certainly not in the UK. Anyway, one of my favourite tracks of theirs. I just let it wash over me. Has a slight Pink Floyd vibe to it. This is an appearance on the Whistle Test a couple of years before. I guess I'm just championing them a bit having rediscovered them after quite a long time. I think its called nostalgia RIP, Pix 👍

Not really my bag but I quite the the Whistle Test track, not sure about the first.
The tracks seem different styles, first one more “proggy”, with the second one a bit more southern rock.
I have to say I’ve never heard of them, is this a good representation of the band ?

The Old Grey Whistle Test track is an earlier one from the days when they flipped between funk and, like you say, country rock leanings. They then drifted into 'concept' territory with the album The Knife so, yeah, maybe a bit more of a prog shift. I don't think any of their 4 albums defines them really. Their debut, which was just called A Band Called O, is my favourite. But it's always been hard to come by and I think I had to download the audio from YouTube just to get hold of it again. Never seen a CD.

Faces - A Nod's as Good as a Wink...
Stands up so well after all these years. Ronnie Wood as the sole guitarist comes through really well here.
A great band but as is so often the case, it fell apart. In this case, it started unravelling when Ronnie Lane quit. Woody was sucking up to the Stones, Rod was soloing before he joined the Faces, and that process just accelerated while he was in the band.
Even now I grieve, but given all the factors above it was inevitable.
Ian McLagan did a lot of session work, with the Stones initially - he's responsible for the keyboards bit in Miss You. He's also the piano in the Bryan Adams song All For Love with Sting and Rodders. He shacked up with Kim Kerrigan before her husband (Keith Moon) died, later married her and moved out to Austin, Texas. She died in a motor accident in August 2006; Mac suffered a stroke and died in Dec 2014.
Kenney Jones later joined the 'Oo to replace Keith Moon. At the time, Pete and Rog said they didn't want another Keith, but the reality was that was exactly they wanted, hence they got Zak Starkey. You may recall he was the substitute drummer for Quo on TOTP - filling in for Jeff Rich, I beleive.
P.S. - Ronnie Lane
Ronnie Lane quit the Faces in 1973, stating that he didn't want to be in Rod Stewart's backing band. Went on to form Slim Chance (I went to see them at The Greyhound in Croydon - quite good as it 'appened), but contracted Multiple Sclerosis in 1977 and died slowly twenty years later in Colorado, USA. London Borough of Newham named a street after him in is home town of Plaistow - called Ronnie Lane.
Some of the things that don't mentioned when talking about Ronnie Lane is that he ran out of money. Plenty of people chipped in to pay his medical bills - the other Faces, and Jimmy Page among them. There was talk of the Glimmer Twins also chipping in.

I was never a big Faces or even a Rod fan but I certainly preferred the music back in the mid-70's to the stuff Rod did as a solo artist. A Nod's As Good As A Wink and Ooh La La did the rounds at school and I liked some tracks from each. But no more than that. I did once queue for Faces tickets outside Edinburgh Odeon but they were all gone by the time we'd snaked our way anywhere near the box office. Would have been 1974 or thereabouts I think. I did manage to catch Rod in 1977 at Edinburgh Playhouse though. I did take to Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance after hearing his hit single, How Come. And I grabbed a track of his on download recently that I always wanted but could never find. It was Brother Can You Spare A Dime? from the soundtrack of a documentary about the depression in the 30's. A terrific cover. I also have his best of album, Kuschty Rye.Ronnie Wood said in a recent Stones documentary series that Faces was simply a party band and they were never any more than that but that he had a blast. Never sober for a good 5 years he said 👍

Never sober for a good 5 years he said 👍 Ronnie Wood spent five years was just warming up with the Faces. It took him another 35 years to kick the booze habit. :-( To be fair, he is very good. He doesn't get the credit he deserves in the Rolling Stones.

The Stones produced their best stuff when he was in the band but not because he was in the band. 👍

Wilko Johnson and Roger Daltrey - Going Back Home
What irritates me about these collaboations is that they then go out on tour - and I miss out on seeing them! They could have called me, or dropped me an email...

I did hear a rumour that Daltrey was in the crowd at Hammersmith, not sure if it was true or not.

Love this album. I must dig it out now 🙂 Did u not see him supporting the FF. I did hear a rumour that Daley was in the crowd at Hammersmith, not sure if it was true or not. Daltrey would be perfect for Dr. Feelgood. He could easily pass for Lee Brilleaux without changing his style. I wonder if he's doing anything these days... About the FF supprt slot, I can only remember vaguely! I went on Sat 16 Mar 2013, the second of the two Hammaersmith shows - one of Rick's guitar strings broke, then one broke on his spare guitar. Tricky time for us as a family. Of the three of us that went, one was my brother-in-law. His mother's funeral was the day or two before, and there were a lot of emotional things simmering at that time - mother, aunt (who died shortly after), ex-wife (that's a long story). It all came to the boil on that Saturday night - he collapsed about half way through the show. He recovered quickly, but missed the rest of the gig.

Crap thing to happen at a gig mate, funny how things bottle up inside people and then manifest themselves in very negative way. Hope there was no long lasting side effects 👍

I've seen people have epileptic fits at Quo gigs on two occasions. Once at the Glasgow Apollo and right next to me. The pest The other at Bridlington Spa Pavillion. So I guess things do happen at gigs. I suspect the lighting brought these two incidents on. But who knows? I myself went to a gig in Cardiff with a very overactive thyroid at the time that I didn't know I had. I thought I was going to expire and couldn't understand why Had to sit down half way through. Felt weird. I'm normally fit as a flea. Straight to the docs on the Monday, which was Christmas Eve. So blood tests took an age to come back. Very quiet Christmas that one So, is this the illness comparison thread? 'Bout time we had one of those at our ages

He’s also gone on record to say after the cancer ordeal he had a new lease of life and a change of perspective. RIP to a fantastic character and guitarist.

Scott called time on his participation in BSR, probably at the end of 2021 or start of 2022. Says he wants to concentrate on getting Thin Lizzy back out on the road. At 72 years of age, I thought he'd want to retire.
