Can't believe All Around my Hat is doing so well....I hate that song! And it's on Accept No Substitute twice!! Actually I never could stand it either (and didn't vote for it), but when watching the Accept No Substitute DVD I suddenly got it: It's a beautiful folk song and nicely sung as well. The only problem is - why on earth did Quo record it ? And even weirder - why did they play it live ??

After all it's all taste and opinion, and just because I don't like it doesn't mean no-one else is allowed to like it. There are plenty of songs that Quo have done (covers or otherwise), that I could distance myself from and think I like it, even though it's not a standard Quo song or not one I would have chosen for them to do.....but AAMH is not one of those songs! I suppose I just haven't 'got it' yet. I can't believe they recorded it, played it live, and have now put it on their Greatest Hits DVD twice!! ???

Indeed The main problem with the song isn't whether it's a good or bad song or even whether we like it or not - it's a beautiful folk song - but that it's so out of place on a Quo album, any Quo album. If they really want to record stuff like that they should do an acoustic album merely containing folk songs and make that very clear on the tin. (Now there's an idea 107 )

(Now there's an idea 107 ) I actually don't have a problem with them recordiing it (even though I said I did above) and putting it on Don't Stop. It was such a different album (and at the time a one off we thought) that I thought they can put whatever they wanted on it. It's more the fact that it hasn't gone away since! Released as a single! Played live! Appears on Whatever You Want Greatest Hits! And now on Accept No Substitute DVD twice!

And yep the Quo version is actually quite good. I just feel that it's wrong in the context of a standard Quo gig, a standard Quo compilation .. probably same as you. What I won't do is blame Francis for it. I know it's the standard thing to do - blame Francis for everything that ever went wrong - but I'm sure he had nothing to do with putting the compilations together and it wasn't in the one live set that actually did reflect his taste: his solo set. It had probably been put into the Quo set because it had been chosen as a single - again not by Francis, but by the record company.

I'm not a Francis knocker....far from it. I'm sure you're right about him not having anything to do with it being on the GH or new DVD (I've edited my post). I just wish it would go away; but that's just my opinion and I'm sure there are plenty of Quo fans who 'get it'.
