Scarborough Open Air Theatre 12 July 2014 Conditions near perfect again, overcast and no wind, Uriah Heep not too bad particularly enjoyed "one minute" check the track out on youtube. Then the Quo same set list but they were on great form. Same as last years gig, great from start to finish and they nailed last 5 tracks in the main set, the place was rocking. They should open the encore with BB in my opinion, the crowd were hooked and this track seems to hit the spot more so than JW. My personal favourite on the night Down Down. Standing ovation, and then the realization that another cracking gig is over and that's it till December

Sounds like you had a great time After all that's what a Quo gig is about: They make you leave the venue with a big smile on your face The Heep/Quo combination is what we got in Germany last autumn/winter and it worked really well. Heep warmed the crowd up nicely for Quo and going by Mick Box's blog, the bands got on great and there's a lot of mutual respect.

Can't say I really like Uriah Heap but Quo were on top form and once again Francis seemed to be really enjoying himself and lingered on stage longer than usual at the end. For all those moaners who don't like seated gigs, this year right from the start there were head bangers down at the front and quite a lot of cavorting going on. The only ones down there who the stewards had a word with were very obviously drunk. My (front) row were all singing the words from Paper Plane onwards and cheering and clapping throughout and we were on our feet from just over half way through.
Apart from the big numbers towards the end, I noticed that The Oriental and, surprisingly, Rock'n'Roll'n'You were very well received. When it was over the stranger next to me was grinning all over his face and said Excellent! to me.
I really like that venue, the sound is perfect, must be the unusual setting.

I've just googled images of it....were they on the stage on the other side of the water!?! That's a weird set up!

That's mad!! I'm sure it must work though or it wouldn't still exist/survive as a venue. How does it work for a band like Quo where the audience as usually on top of the band?

There are quite a few gigs there every year now, and it's a great setting for a gig. I don't know why but Quo have done it twice now and I think they were hoping to make it a third next year. The weather has been great both times which helps as well.

The little North Bay train ran along a track behind the stage (only in daytime, not during performances) and you could see right through it to the audience seating. I had imagined that it had a solid back but the structure was really just a square shaped arch of rigging.

Maybe in retrospect you should've done the train tour on Saturday .. - You could've seen and heard the band do their sound check if the timing was right
