This is one we did to kick off a wee project between Myself, Hardcorequo (Jim) and Quomanuk (Gordon), by doing a Quo song remote from each other by sending the music files over the Net, our aim was to replicate the song as close to note for note as we could, Its an Instrumental only version but we have done it from the Intro right to the end of the fade out Lead Guitar solo. I think it turned out not bad at all. What do you guys think?

This is a great way of improving your skills. Reason being is that you are initially alone playing your part with just a drum beat. Any mistakes or if your timing wanders are brutally exposed and you then have to present it to they other guys involved. It takes you in to a steep learning zone and you emerge with a far greater understanding of the song when you are done.

It takes you in to a steep learning zone and you emerge with a far greater understanding of the song when you are done. I couldn't have put it better myself Jim, It really does have that effect, You could be playing in a Band together in a room and get away with a bit sloppy playing here and there, but when you record this way it exposes every single little glitch in your playing, basically you have a Master Tape and can single out every instrument, in a way it forces you into perfectionism as there is no other way than to play it right.
This may well be one of the reasons we see people on forums trying to do a "virtual cover" which ultimately ends up with pages and pages of posts with lots of big talking "you do this and il do that blah d blah d blah" and nothing at the end to show for all the wasted type type type!. ( I really need to get that stutter dealt with )
You don't realise how much of a challenge a "virtual cover" is until you try it, I think ours was possibly the first ever Quo "virtual cover", I certainly have not seen any, but I could be wrong.
One thing we didn't do though....., Pages and pages of hype n type, we just done it.

Apart from having Francis Rossi or Rick Parfitt demonstrating how to play this one there is no better way of learning it that i`m currently aware of.Same applies to any song Quo or otherwise. Jamie i think you hit the nail on the head there by quoting the delay that others are experiencing in getting something together. Like me, they will have thought."Ok. BEL.Easy" "WRONG" Another tip is to stay quiet until you have a worthy product or it`s all just hot air that others soon realise you are struggling with. I`m up for another go as the mini projects of 4500 times and Just Take Me put me in the mood to do so. No endless posting about bpm or other irrelevances for the punter. It just suddenly pops up and others can love it or hate it.It`s all about choice. The Moon won`t collide with the Earth if you can`t manage a result. The ultimate tip is to realise it`s some one elses music and you are just a practitioner. No one but no one can ever play it better than the original artists. Sorry for stating the obvious there.

Inna and admin thanks for the feedback on the 4 way cover.
Just great fun to join in with the two great players. And the end result was way better that I could ever imagined. When we where sending files back and forth it great just hear the rawness of the track with solos and Rhythm. And we all had agrea the end result( Now that what I call team work, and been honest with each other.
At this point I can`t thank both parties enough, just a joy work with James and Jamie !

This thread is really worth reading and I hope you all will go on to give us more insights into your playing.

hello quodlibet. Thanks for the heads up. I think BEL is tough one for all players. Jamie makes look easy ! , but we all know that is not the case. And keep a solid rytthm is no easy task. Bel intro lesson below. I just hope that I kept the speed right( since all know that there is no drums to keep the timing). This was used for the 4 way cover. As I like to explain note by note( some people learn by watching, and others by TABs and breakdowns) BEL intro play through, then a note by note break down www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uEX1Q8wdJ4&feature=c4-overview&list=UU6zVZ0tdDOdFGgInkmZfCsQ
