What about doing it poll-style, now that we've got this option ? .. and please give us more than just the one vote. The head to head is so unfair at times :-/

Thanks for the comments Kathrin & Colin. I have to admit I too like the poll option. A couple of points worth pondering though ... It would then be an "anonymous vote" (unless folk wished to voluntarily "publish" their votes below teach poll). Also, using this Cup as an example, there are 32 ties (ignoring the "byes"), each of which would require its own poll. So, 32 polls just for Round 1! Maybe then, for a straight "A" v "B" format, the usual format is more practical. BUT ... there's always the option of, say, for a competition with 64 tracks, to have maybe 8 polls for Round 1, each of 8 tracks, with the top 4 in each going through to the next round. Folk could also be given the opportunity of voting for, say, 4 tracks from each 8. In fact, I do like that idea a lot! As the current Round 1 is under way, I'll leave it as it is for Round 1, but do a "poll" from Round 2 onwards

(rofl)(<- NOT red wine)

What?! Kathrin is allowed to decide what an Andy Bown track is?! Has she tracked him down?

Now maybe you've already done this in the past and if so then my apologies But... might it be possible to do a Quo Cup where albums are selected and we choose the top three tracks of each... that way for us newbies it gets us familiar with which songs come from which album... then once we've voted on each individual album & given the top three tracks, then put the album's top three, up against the other albums top three... and so on... does that make sense?

Yep, it does!! I did start a similar thing on the other board which, after we left, Lord Flasheart continued to the end. Not a quickie though that one, that's for sure - 30ish studio albums It'll get done here sometime though - always pleased to do polls. Maybe even Flashy would like to do it himself on this MB ... t2716

I'd just appreciate being taken through album by album so I've got a chance of catching up to speed. And whoever does do it - please may I ask you not to rush through it - go at a slow & steady pace so newer ones like myself can keep up, but also fast enough to keep the others interested of course. Just steady... no rush double-thumbs-up-thanks-smiley-emoticon

Suggestions for an August theme anyone? Also, any comments on a possible voting format? I like the sound of booting out the least liked for a change A kind of "Survivor" competition, a bit like the one the_quoman did a while ago on the SQMB. And, comments noted re not always using the poll facility to vote, as it can be a bite linear. Anyway, any further thoughts?

Hm, we could do a b-sides cup, that would be the perfect addition to the a-sides. There's only one thought that makes me hesitate: There'd be quite a few not so well known to completely obscure tracks in there and that would've negative consequences on the number of participants I fear. So maybe we should stick with songwriters first: Bown tracks, Parfitt, Lancaster, Edwards .. as we've already started with Rossi/Young and Rossi/Frost songs.

Thanks for the thoughts Kathrin. Tbh, I think the 7 or so regulars, and 10 who voted in the final, would probably still join in even for lesser known tracks. Maybe. However, we've previously had a B-sides/Bonus tracks competition (as we had singles ) so I'd be more inclined to err towards your suggestion of another song-writer Cup. Or a "decade" one maybe? But yes, I think after the last non-writer one, it's time for another one based around who wrote what. I'd like to have a "vote out" round to mix it up a bit, and then maybe a "ranking" round without using the poll feature. (Happy to hear all other suggestions/thoughts on that score of course.)

We could do it poll style during the first few rounds and a ranking round in the final and maybe the semis as well ? (it'll depend on the number of overall tracks, I suppose) Vote out is a good idea for smaller competitions, as otherwise it'll take forever (as the one the quoman did proved). On the old mb that was very much a clique thing - we tended to vote in groups to eliminate songs. Will be interesting to see how things work out on CnC. We may have to convince Rosie to register here as well :lolflg:

I like Kathrin's idea of doing it poll style for the first couple of rounds, and then as it nears the semis (or even the quarters?) then put it to the ranking - that could be a bit of a change. I also like the idea of voting to eliminate songs - it mixes it up a bit and sometimes we have much clearer ideas on what we want to see go out.
Yes - be good to see Rosie here too, and any others you can think of would be :wlcm:
