More UK and German Dates added then. I know there is a section of the crowd left due to the Rick issue, but has their fanbase declined that much in terms of the size of the venues they are playing and how its configured. In the UK at least anyway ?

Sis alerted me to this this morning then I got an e-mail from FTMO.
Not sure I'll do any more than I'm already doing (two) but I'll have the discussion about Gateshead. That part of the world is easy to get to from here.
I recognise quite a few of the venues from the past (Dublin, Belfast, Sheffield, Ipswich, Oxford, Croydon). In fact, we have two live albums from Ipswich and Oxford. So it looks like it's just a question of avoiding the arenas in the UK now. Whether that's down to anticipated numbers or cost, I have no idea.

You are totally right, what I was alluding to was just playing smaller places, with the larger ones of those having a seated formation and reducing the capacity. It’s a shame they don’t do a double header and have equal set times, just to getter new songs across to more people.

It’s a shame they don’t do a double header and have equal set times, just to getter new songs across to more people. Interesting you say that! I was reading about Def Leppard recently, and I can't remember if it was in Vegas or just on a normal tour, but they opened for themselves! Two 1 hour sets. The first set was either one of their albums in full or more obscure songs, and the second was a normal/hits set. Would be amazing if Quo did that!

I'm told we're doing Gateshead. Although it's really Newcastle to all intent and purposes. Down to me to get tickets apparently I need to drum up some urgency and enthusiasm. It's just it seems such a long way away. Approaching Christmas NEXT year!

I am contemplating adding another to the Hammersmith one I am already doing. I think it's great that the venues are the size they are. If you think about it they are all similar if not the same venues the FF used to play in their heyday so for me its a good move. I think another reason for these venues is that they still aren't confident about how popular they still are. Even when Rick was with us the band were not selling out the larger venues they played. Smaller venues makes sense.

Yes, admit that's more tempting... but I'm still on the fence. Why? 1) MMEB are playing almost next door next month, I love the guys, but I'm not sure I need to see them in two consecutive years 2) Between that, plus Saga and possibly Eric Clapton next year, I'm starting to run into financial problems... I guess my enthusiasm to see them again also depends on how much they'll actually change the setlist. We'll see

We'll see The thing is - MM is old, Clapton isn't much younger - basically goes for all of the acts from the 60s/70s, 80s even - and considering your age you've got decades of bad music ahead of you . So go see them as often as possible while they're still around, they're all running out of time .. .

So go see them as often as possible while they're still around, they're all running out of time .. . Actually, joking apart, there's a valid point in there somewhere. Every time I think of seeing an act (but never actually go ) it's not what you'd call a new kid on the block. They're usually from liking them since the 70's or 80's. Whether that's an age thing or there just isn't anyone new around at the moment that I particularly rate, I'm not sure. I do like Garbage, Band of Skulls and K T Tunstall. But that's probably about as young as they get. And that lot have been on the go for a good few years now to be fair. Especially Garbage. But I'm hardly likely to rush for tickets to see Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris or Kanye West. Or any number of new metal/rock bands. I have a mate who's the same. He's followed The Cure and Depeche Mode for decades, sometimes all over Europe even now. And was at a Happy Mondays gig last week. But he's in his 50's now so we're all sort of sticking with those we know from our past. It's a sign of the times. It's a sign of MY times. Where's John Peel with the really good new stuff when you need him?

I forked out something stupid this morning like 160 quid for 3 tickets for Newcastle. However, much better tickets than they were offering on either of the two pre-sales or from ticket agencies. I went straight to the venue an' all. This lot better be good

And I've always found the tickets for European gigs to be more expensive anyway. The UK is just catching up a bit. Although if I was being picky, I might demand several changes to the set for the extra dosh I'm forking out. Otherwise it's like paying the BBC licence fee to watch repeats. Which, of course, we do
