There's been a lot of talk about this on the other board and surprisingly none here... City Out Of Control (8'32) Is This The Way To Say Goodbye (2'57) She's A Mystery (3'10) Small Talk (4'22) Running In The Shadows (6'10) No Danger (5'07) Rising Star (4'08) Aim High (3'43) Crime Investigator (4'42) pupcious mixed this, so it should sound good. Including no Quo songs at all seems like a hugely asinine decision to me, though. I mean, you got 50% of the classic Quo line-up right there, surely this would entice buyers to get some songs they actually know in unusual live versions? And besides, I hate edited live releases. Just give us the full show!

I didn't know anything about it if I'm honest. But thanks for the heads up. This Barrel & Squidger lot were responsible for the Rock Remembers Rick stuff as well. I know what you mean about Quo songs and I'm sure they will have played some live. Would there be an ownership or rights issue there? Just musing. I have no idea. I shall get on to this

Either John looks unrecognisable (second from left ?) or he's not on the album sleeve ?
What I wonder too is the band name - sometimes it's just the Bombers and then it's (Alan) Lancaster's Bombers. I thought they existed before Alan joined and were already quite successful Down Under .. Did they rename themselves for marketing reasons or is it a completely new band ?

He did go through a phase in the mid 80's when his hair was shorter (shoulder length and even with blonde highlights! ) because that's how he looked in his Partners in Crime days. I'm pretty sure that's him second from the left in his 80's guise. We've all been there!

Any details of release? I've had a hunt online and can't find it anywhere, including the Barrel & Squidger site

The Lancaster Bombers/Alan Lancaster's Bombers was a different, later band with largely different members but still using the (fairly obvious, but good nonetheless) link between Alan's name and the wartime plane. The most obvious difference between the later band and The Bombers was that they didn't have Tyrone Coates singing - Tyrone is excellent! They didn't exist before Alan joined - you're thinking of The Party Boys - they did largely covers and weren't a patch on The Bombers (in rock terms - they were more successful in Australia). I'd recommend The Bombers - by far the best 'solo' venture outside Quo. Have a search on YouTube

Not that it makes sense then that the sleeve reads Alan Lancaster's Bombers when it's The Bombers. And yep, must've confused them with the Party Boys.

Alan chose what tracks he wanted to be included, and he's very happy with how it has turned out Cheers

I think it's good that this release won't have any Quo tracks on....the band can stand on it's own merits. I was thinking the other day when Frozen Hero posted this, and mentioned that there wasn't any chat about it on here. I have bought most of the other Quo related solo offerings (not Jeff's or Leon's) but never taken any interest in Alan's. I think that was probably because the stuff that I bought has all been promoted through the Quo website, whereas Alan's was around 30 years ago before I was into Quo, and I thought his bands had mainly done covers and Quo songs. Similarly I've never been back and sought out Andrew's earlier offerings. Anyway, on Frozen Hero's suggestion, I found a few of the Bombers offerings and was suitably impressed. 'World's on Fire' in particular was brilliant. And as he said, Tyrone Coates is/was a fantastic singer. On the strength of that, I think I'll buy the album. Thanks for the info FH.

The irony being, I've not checked out Alan's solo material yet either. But I thought it was odd that there were like, lots of pages about this on the other forum, but nothing here. So I thought I should at least help to promote it within these fan circles, outside of which I doubt many people will buy this! And yes, they did play Quo tracks like Roadhouse Blues (although that's a cover in itself, of course).

Didn't they play POMM too at least for a while ? I've always thought what an odd choice that was .. I'd have expected for Alan to choose his own Quo songs or at least none written by Francis. But maybe he had conquering the US market in mind ?

Alan did do a cover of Pictures of Matchstickmen. No idea if he ever played it live. And it was simply called Matchstickmen. There was a Quo demo kicking about of either Aim High or She's A Mystery (can't recall which) so presumably Quo rejected whichever it was. They should've taken it. It couldn't have made Back To Back any worse This Bombers material pre-dates most of the Alan solo stuff that's been released though.

She's A Mystery was probably intended for the next Quo album that they were in studio recording / planning in Sept / Oct 1984 down in Surrey, rather than B2B.

I'll have to track it down first! Couldn't find it before. I dare say things have moved on since then.

Found it on the Barrel & Squidger website. Alas, the vinyl seems to be sold out, although a pic-disc is imminent. CD it is then. For now

I've got the CD when it came out, think it is great, still listening to it regularly.

It's on Spotify. I haven't given it a listen yet as to be honest the studio versions of the songs I find very AOR apart from She's a Mystery which is excellent

Alan took an artistic direction that I'm glad Quo didn't, although I agree that She's A Mystery is a great track. But we also had that demo, One Of A Kind, from the mid 80's which is about as bad as it gets! But Quo hardly covered themselves in glory either and it was a barren spell for quite a while This live album might be quite refreshing; in a retro sort of way.
