Live at the NEC - anyone seen this?

Not sure when (or if!) it's to be released but it looks genuine enough. The whole gig is on the BBC box collection of course but a lot of the Rossi banter is missing. Maybe this will remedy that. Looks like it's being remastered again as well. 

Not sure if this is the actual sleeve either. Can't really think what was wrong with the original if I'm honest. 

A Blu-Ray would be nice

Meant to say, it's being released on triple vinyl and double deluxe CD. With sleeve notes (as usual) by Dave Ding-a-ling.

I already have a triple album copy (bootleg of course), which has a better cover!!

And, of course, one or two of us have the original which formed part of the From The Makers Of tin/box; the Dutch vinyl release from a couple of years later; the CD from the 90's; the remastered CD from 2005; the BBC live box set; the video; the Tommy Vance radio broadcast; the original BBC TV broadcast; the heavy gram vinyl which came with the LP box set earlier this year; the live DVD version of Forty Five Hundred Times from whichever DVD that was....!

Etc etc etc....

See where I'm going with this?

I have both the LP Box sets that have come out over the last year or ywo and neither has this album, have I missed one?

I opened the first box and was impressed, I must admit. The second one I've only just bought and haven't got round to it. I only just assumed given the time scale it covered.

What did assume do? In best office parlance.... 

Hmm, I take it they missed that one then because of this impending re-release. 

Anyway, the point remains. We have many copies of this in various formats. You even have the memory of attendance. One that I'll never be able to collect no matter how much I trawl t'internet.

So are they adding in the rest of the tracks rather than just the original ten track album?

To be fair, although we've had numerous releases of one kind or another, this will be the first time the whole gig has come out as an individual purchase. I think we all thought it might but it's taken quite a bit of time. Then again, so did the Stones at Hyde Park in 1969 I suppose.

Equally, if you wait long enough, all the "limited edition/exclusive/never before available bonus tracks/etc" will float by too. 

Perhaps it's only me but it certainly feels as if this is the case.

I have forgotten some of the gigs, Quo and non-Quo, over the years, but I remember that one well.

I also remember how bad the sound on the album (in the FTMO) box set was in comparison to my Memorex tape.

I have forgotten some of the gigs, Quo and non-Quo, over the years, but I remember that one well.

I also remember how bad the sound on the album (in the FTMO) box set was in comparison to my Memorex tape.

Fingers crossed and all that!

I remember recording the Tommy Vance broadcast of the gig which was a good few days after the event. My cassette tape reached the end of side one right in the middle of Forty Five Hundred Times so I had to whip it out quickly, turn it over and hurriedly restart recording. Nightmare!

I also remember fading it in and out to make it sound better. The world's worst record producer 

I'm the same as you; that was by far the best live Quo recording for about 20 odd years! That probably speaks volumes about the dross we got thrown at us at times.

How do people record from the radio now?  The only way I can do it is through digital radio on the TV.  Virgin came and swapped my old box for a new one yesterday so I've lost a few Quo things that I had recorded on there   No idea if I could have downloaded them to a USB stick or something similar, but I didn't get any warning anyway...it stopped working altogether then they took it away.

I have no idea how people record these days - or even if they do. 

I get the impression it might be a generational thing. My step-daughter is well into her music - maybe even as much as I was in my early 20's - but she doesn't collect or record anything. She streams playlists on Spotify or plays them on her iPod. She doesn't own a CD and has no idea what to do with a record 

I think with the advent of mp3 the whole tactile thing in terms of ownership has gone. It must be quite difficult lovingly browsing through your mp3 collection, especially if its something like an iPod Nano where there isn't even any artwork. Rarities are also becoming a thing of the past. Rare records still exist but not rare songs or tracks. They're all out there freely available. Even the most obscure stuff like demos etc.  

The Live at the NEC release is a trend that will gradually disappear completely I imagine. I can't see a recording of Ed Sheeran at Wembley for example turning up in physical form in, say, 2050. 

I'm just glad I lived through what I reckon has been a golden age.

Yes! I also taped the NEC show from the Friday Rock Show. I had a C120 tape, and I think you're right, Billy, it came to the end in the middle of the glorious 4500 Times! A quick eject, flip, and record. I had that down to a fine art! I had a Sharp music centre so I could tape direct from the radio, without having to 'shush' anyone that happened to be walking into the room!

I played that tape all the time - made copies for schoolfriends etc. And when the VHS came out a year later or so I saved up all my pocket money, birthday money, Christmas money etc to try and get a copy. There was only 1 copy available in 1 shop in our town. I used to walk past the window and just stare at it through the window.

That whole thing about desiring a physical product, and having to save up for it... it was like getting hold of treasure. That feeling of acquisition and ownership has never left me. I very rarely buy physical products anymore - but I still don't like streaming. I'd rather pay for a download, because I feel like I have to 'own' it, rather than just 'consume' it.

It is definitely a generational thing. I think it somehow cheapens the music if I just stream it from Spotify. For me, there still has to be an exchange of my money in return for my investment in owning the music.

My C120 tape eventually snapped, and my VHS tape is sitting in a box in the loft. I've watched it so many times in my youth, and more recently seen clips on YouTube, that I have very little desire to watch it again. The only exception to that was when they released TPAOY DVD, which had 4500 Times on it, which I think was the last time I genuinely got excited about a Status Quo release in recent years. And also the BBC Box set, which had a proper CD quality version of those recordings. I'm looking forward to this new release. I hope they've done a decent job with the re-mastering because it sounds like it was recorded in a barn.

I've never actually streamed music. It makes it seem so disposable. Like commercial radio. 

I guess that just makes me old   Although, to be fair, I suppose I have to 'stream' samples of music to decide if I want to download a song/album or not. That certainly beats standing in a booth with headphones on trying to make up my mind. Or does it?

I have a CD/radio/USB player that can record mp3s to a USB stick, but it stopped working properly and I've gone back to stupid ol' cassettes...

One of my mates bought the CD this morning, all was going well until he played Track 3 'Roadhouse Blues' on CD 2 and at 0.42 seconds in, the track cuts out until 2.04. I was wondering if this is just a clitch on his copy, or is it a wider issue.

Are Rossi's talky bits on there? I hate when they fade it out at the end of the song and then fade it back in for the next song.  You lose the 'live' feel of the crowd and Rossi's banter.

Wider issue looks as if the whole batch of CD's are faulty. The Vinyl and Download versions are ok, hopefully they will recall the CD's and send out replacements.

Why is it ALWAYS Quo?    I take it we all remember the Just Doin' It and Going Downtown Tonight debacles? 

I haven't bought it yet but what I'll probably do is download it for my iPod and buy the CD for the 'collection'.
